Hi there
I have replaced the the 8400M GS in my 5720Z because it died.
Now I have the 9600M GS with 512MB DDR2 and Windows works without any problems. BUT when the laptop starts the 30sec bios post shows up referring to the mxm bios data structure being wrong.
But after 30 secounds it starts and works normally.Code:MXM structure not found or invalid Refresh MXM rom or add MXM structure ans associated callbacks to SBIOS! Post halted performance limited until resolved...
I have copied the bios with GPU-Z

I have searched the internet a bit and it looks like there are some modifications needed to the file. But I'm not an expert.
I have found a similat problem to my on another forum:
Acer Aspire 5520-7416 MXM II 8600GT? - LaptopVideo2Go Forums
and a partial sollution here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...structure-not-found-invalid-post-message.html
If anone of you could edit the BIOS file for me either to eliminate beeping or to eliminate the POST message.
Thanks in advance.

Hi!
Is this still a problem for you?
Because I think I may have the solution, in the form of a system BIOS patch. You can get the patched BIOS from request download ticket | ifile.it (note: it also contains some other tweaks in addition to the MXM fix, such as extra menus and unlocked HW virtualization).
Note: This is a system BIOS patch, not a video BIOS one. You can flash it using InsydeFlash, Flash It.exe, or the Fn+Esc method. Also note that the patch is untested, as far as fixing the beeps goes - it didn't brick my beep-unaffected machine, though. -
Hello .NetRolller 3D!
I'd like to know with what device is the file you provided intended to work.
I have an Acer 5520G where I try to fix the "MXM strusture" issue after replacing a dead stock 8600M GT with 9600M GS.
Is there any use of your file in my case?
Thank you! -
The file is a system BIOS for the Acer 5720. The 5520 probably has a different MXM structure embedded in its BIOS - you will need to alter it to identify as MXM v2.1, and fix any obvious errors in it, and make sure it has all the parts required in the specification. Be careful, the 5720G actually checks for the string "MXM_\2\0" before returning the MXM structure pointer (I patched it to check for "MXM_\2\1" instead), so you may need to adjust the code to make it find the new structure.
Also, the code responding to the MXM version query may need to be modded to return 0x20 instead of 0x21.
Note that not all notebooks store their MXM data in their BIOS - some have a separate MXM ROM soldered on the motherboard. If both an MXM ROM and a BIOS-included MXM structure are present, the ROM takes precedence.
I have not managed to download a BIOS for the 5520G, only the 7520G (but I believe it uses the same BIOS). Analyzing the 7520G BIOS did not reveal an MXM structure, but according to the schematic, there is no MXM ROM either! If you have an idea where the MXM structure is located in the 5520G, please post it. -
Hello .NetRolller 3D.
I have no sufficient knowledge in programming, just hardware repair skills, so, I've got no idea about where is the MXM structure in 5520G bios.
I can just upload the system BIOS, if necessary, the notebook schematics.
Here's the BIOS:

Could you please check the BIOS I provide to see if anything can be done to it in order to avoid MXM cards underclocking and 30sec message and delay?
Thank you for your investigation!
P.S.: reading the spec you provided, thanks! -

Have you found anything mentioning the MXM form factor type?
Do you think what you did could make these laptops accept bigger cards? -
it's a graphic card problem i just had the same problem few seconds ago ..and i had to replace the VGA Card and it works perfect ... Regards

Hello Egypt!
Could you please be more specific - what are you talking about?
What graphics card problem do you mean?
Did you succeed in modding your VBIOS to avoid popping out "MXM structure" message? If so, what was the original VGA card and the new one? Notebook model?
Or did you just replace the card with the same one? -
Hi all!
I have the same problem on my Acer Aspire 7520G laptop, still couldn't find a solution for it... has anybody succeeded in it?
Thanks!!! -
Get the patched BIOS for the 5520G from the Acer MXM BIOS modding thread. (The 7520G uses the same BIOS as the 5520G.)
