A problem with a brand new Aspire 5735Z

Online I have sound from "Television"
Online I have sound from the BBC iPlayer
I have music from Windows Media player
    I have music from CDs
If I burn my own movie to a DVD I have sound

But if I put a DVD of a film, or one recorded on my Panasonic DVD recorder, I have no sound.

Yes, I have set it to Region 2 for the UK - It must be a software thing or all the other methods would not work; the laser is reading the pictures and the sound from its own recording and from a CD - Any ideas?

did it come with cyberlink DVD software? try reinstalling it.

sounds like whatever the AC3 filter is, it needs to be re-registered. re-installation of dvd software works.

you can also download a 3rd party AC3 filter for free.
