    Hello everyone,

I am new here, and i have a problem.Sorry if english is bad.

I recentley bought LG 22'' monitor and connected it to my acer notebook. Since then i have problem with overheating, an my notebook is shutting down from time to time without any warning. I am not sure if thats just coincidence, but when both acers monitor and lg works together, after about 2h temperature reaches 90+ celsisus. and when i disconnect the monitor, and do my usuall stuff, temperature is about 70+ celsius. I bought notebook year and a half ago, and since then, i didnt clean it from inside. Should i do it? Is it possible that LG is taking more power from my nvidia geforce G105M graphic card?

    thnx in advance

There are two and a half possibilities.
One- you close the lid while using the external monitor which doesn't help and causes the temperature to rise.
Two- your GPU gets hot because it has more work to do.

And a half- 5738 has a closed air intake at the bottom. It makes this laptop's cooling system a poor one. So whichever of the above is true (even if neither is) cooling system is (at least partially) responsible for what's happening.

You may want to search the forum for mod that other owners of 5738 did to open the vents at the bottom. That would void your warranty but lower the temps noticeably.

Two and a half to three- It could be because the card has to run at full clocks when two monitors are being used.

    1. no, i keep the lid open beacuse of the reason you mentioned
    2. is there a way to upgrade gpu cooling system?

a half - my warranty expired, so that shouldnt be a problem, just if i could find that mod you are talking about.

It's not really as sophisticated as you expected but it can be found here (post 29) You can find a service manual for 5738G on the net (it can't be published here due to copyright issues).
