    Hi All,

I have an Aspire 5745G and for the last month the fan has been making a clicking noise... get's worse when the fan moves faster. Have read that it could be the bearings in the fan but definitely sounds like something is touching the sides.

Has anyone been effected by this kind of noise...

Also can anyone suggest a guide and fan I could use to replace the existing one.

    Thanks
    Jesse :)

I had the same issue a month ago,the fan touching sommething .
Anyway I pressed hard with my thumbs above the fan above the key board and and the touching sound stopped.
    Might try that first..

Thanks for the advice, Ake, tried that and the noise got worse. The Harddrive and the fan are the only things in that area so I'm thinking it is one of them :(

Here is service manual, that describes disassembly process. And that is link to the fan module for the replacement.

Thank you very much for that Propolkin. Opened her up, put in the new fan, added new thermal paste to both GPU and CPU and then closed her up. Worked for about 1 minute then switched off haha. Realised I hadn't put enough thermal paste on GPU as it was over 100 deg on startup and I hadn't screwed the heatsink on properly.

All works now, but the only thing is, the 3 USB connections on the right hand side of laptop are not working.... Is it possible I have dislodged a connection somewhere or could that indicate I have damaged the motherboard.... Will have to open her up again but just wanted to know if there is anything I should be looking for.

    Regards
    Jesse

It seems that you have not plugged properly the USB-bus cable, as is shown in page 80 in service manual. Try to check it and re-connect.

Thanks will have to open her up again. But have ordered 8BG (2x4) extra RAM so will get that and give it ago. Hopefully that speeds it up somewhat.

One more thing before you stop replying to my posts lol, would it be quite easy to add a SSD to the Aspire. I'm assuming it doesn't come with a slot right now so would need to get a caddy for it.

I`m not going to stop to reply to your posts, if you still need help. :D

Yes, if your ram have the same or higher frequency you`ll gain some performance boost.

As I can see on the manual, there is no slot for additional drive. Thus, you can remove ODD, buy HDD caddy, install there SSD and just plug it into your laptop, where ODD was.
