I just had a frustrating text chat with an Acer tech. I want to upgrade the installed memory in my Acer Aspire 5749-6607 from 4GB to 8GB. The tech told me that they do not provide the information to users to upgrade their machines. They want me to go to a local tech and pay them to install the memory. They are afraid that a user will mess up the machine so they won't provide me the steps to upgrade the memory.

Will anyone share with me the steps to open the cover and upgrade the memory?

    Thanks in advance.

I just bought an Acer Aspire 5749 this month, and I have to say that they have some of the worst customer support I've ever experienced from a PC company. I'm having the same issue, except that I'm trying to upgrade my hard drive to a solid state drive.

I found a website that shows disassembly instructions for the Aspire 5745, which is similar to my Aspire 5749.
    HTML:
    http://www.insidemylaptop.com/disassemble-acer-aspire-5745-laptop/
After looking at some of the pictures, I realized that our model, the 5749, doesn't have individual panels for the Hard Drive or Memory Bays.

Instead, It looks as though the entire bottom chassis has to be removed... In another words, you take the computer completely apart, down to your motherboard to access the hard drive.

My Acer Aspire 5749 laptop has been okay for the time i've had it, but I will never buy an Acer laptop again entirely because of my experience with their customer support.

    Hello
    Its very late reply.
If you have ever opened any notebook then you will find it very easy.
1- Remove all the screws from the back ,
2- take dvd drive out and carefully detach lower case specially from front headphone and mic jacks.
3- when you successfully freed two sides of base its easy to lift.
4- Take off old memory chips out. Put new ones and double check it.
5- Before screwing it again pls carefully put base loosely and start your notebook and see New modules are detected properly. You can do this by going into BIOS.
6- If Successful put all things back, Otherwise check Memory Module Timings and Specifications.

    Hope that Helps,

disassembly instructions for this laptop are not available on web so far. Odd things for this laptop is that it has not compartmental covers for memory or Hard-drives.

One odd thing is that it only detects Memory Modules of DDR3 @ 1067Mhz.
This is really a pain. As it contains 2nd Generation Sandy Bridge and HM65 Chipset. These both support DDR3-10600 @1333Mhz. You can check that all Manufactures are delivering this and their hardware mainboard detect Rams @ 1333Mhz. But ACER is juggling with their customers.

If anyone has an Acer 5749 and his memory speed is @1333Mhz pls post your CPU-Z stats here Thanks
