I have a new Aspire 5920, 3 days old, and I have taken issue to the amount of heat generated. The palm rest at the bottom left of the laptop is uncomfortably warm almost all the time. Has anyone else got similar problems, or have I got a duff unit?

If you mean bottom left towards the screen, yeah this is because there are the CPU and GPU and the fan. This is very common for most laptops. Always a part of the laptop is getting very hot and that part is where the CPU is or the GPU. Now if you mean towards you, it is because the hard drive is there. I've noticed that when I play a game and that part is blocked (I don't let the air to come off from there), it will get very hot eventually. But generally this laptop is not very hot, and for normal use (internet, email, word etc.), it doesn't get hot to make me unconfortable. As a good rule though, try to have the bottom of the laptop unblocked and leave some space for air.

    Thanks nklive.

I mean the bit closest to me, on the left side, and above the HDD. It's pretty much warm all the time (about 35-36 degrees celsius). Quite irritating during long typing sessions. I think I may have to contact tech support :(
