hello, been reading this forum since i got my laptop and found it a great resource. i just want to double check that my laptop will accept a cpu before i buy it. i am currently running with a T5250, and would like to upgrade to a T8300 or T9300. i have upgraded my bios to the latest revision(3811), so i think either of those processors should work.

assuming the upgrade is applicable, is the T9300 worth the ~$80 difference(newegg)? as far as i can tell, the main difference is 3mb of cache(im not really worried about 100mhz), but i dont know how this will translate in terms of performance.

    thanks in advance

It should support it, but I'm not sure how the cooling solution will handle it, my 5920G with T5450 ( 1,6GHz) is already hitting 89 deg C under load. Yes I know they are 45nm and run bit cooler, but still the extra speed should make them hotter.

thats odd. my T5250 never gets over 65 deg C on either core, and i keep them under heavy load for hours at a time. and as you suggested, the 45nm chip should run cooler. my main concern is that the system will post after i install the new chip. btw, im leaning toward the T8300.

i agree,,,, seems odd,, my T5450 NEVER hits 70c... right now the cores are at 37c & 39c,,,, if your laptop is easy to get inside of,, you might want to check the heat-exchange fins in back of the fan... mine needs cleaning every few months otherwise the fins become blocked preventing air circulation,, thus holding heat in...

    just my experience...
