Hello
I have had this laptop for only a year and the other day when plugging in my power while the laptop was on, left keys on the keyboard stopped working. A friend suggested I take the battery out for a bit and then plug it in without the battery. So I did and the keyboard worked for a couple of days like that. Then one day it stopped working again. To be exact these are the keys that are not working:
Esc, F1, F2, F3,
~, 1, 2, 3,
Tab, Q, W, E,
Caps Lock, A, S, D,
Shift, Z, X, C,
Ctrl, Fn, windows, Alt
PLEASE I NEED TO USE THIS ON THE ROAD and it is a pain to have to plug in a external keyboard all the time.

We can not link to current manuals for this laptop due to copyright issues (which is totally stupid if you ask me). However.... go do a google seach for "SG_AS5920G_BOOK.pdf" and it will turn up some results that might assist you further.
I am going to suggest that you re-seat the ribbon cable for your keyboard. Other than that you are looking at a replacement keyboard.
Sorry....
--ssx-- -
How do you re-seat your ribbon cable??? And will that manual have my answer?
-
You need to remove the keyboard, when you do you will se the ribbon, the manual should tell you how to remove it, it's usually a case of removing the power button strip and then a couple of screws. Iknow that is vague but a little research and it will be clear.

Sounds like lots of humidity in it ... Left out at the clear sky over night ...
Soda .. Coke , or something like that.
Send it back for service ... The keyboard ribbon cable could be responsible as cause, only at 5% of similar problems. -
No humidity or anything of that nature. Thanks for the advice. Will respond if I can get it fixed. I just wish there was a better way to solve this issue than opening up the box.... AAAAAAAAARGH! Perhaps I can upgrade the RAM while I am in there....
Anything else, any other ideas, anyone? -
luckily replacement keyboards are only 15-$20
-
You shouldn't need to litterally "open the box" it's pretty much a user serviceable part.
-
Thanks for the reassurance. I will check the manual.
-
Where does someone purchase these replacement keyboards?
-
-
Another option its eBAY ...
-
I have exactly same problem. Any help would be very welcome. Did you managed to solve it soul.guardian?
-
No I haven't braved the solution yet, but I will.

Damn, I also realised that DVD drive plays only data and music CD's.
So, things that went dead:
1) Hot keys (including volume control button & wireless on/off)
2) Esc, F1, F2, F3.., , 1, 2, 3, Tab, Q, W, E, Caps Lock, A, S, D, Shift, Z, X, C etc..
3) Capability to play DVD’s
Weird, this all happened at the same time. Is there some cable that controls all of these?
Local laptop repair shop estimated it to cost £50-£150 to get fixed. I just can’t believe that there is anything so difficult or expensive broken. -
This is not keyboard problem belive me. Its Email Board issue (that button board at left side of notebook) or Mainboard
How to check it?
1.Take of the keyboard ( you dont need to remove keyboard cable, use user manual and read how to take of keyboard )
2.Take of the email board cable from mainboard (white tape following from left side of notebook)
3.Power the notebook and check if it solved the problem
It should be working without email board connected to notebook
if its working then replace email board OR email board cable,
if not ! its a mainboard.
have fun !
