I cracked the screen on my Acer Aspire 5920. The supplier want 120 Pounds Sterling ($240) just to look at it before the cost of a replacement screen - which they reckon will be between another 100 to 200 pounds. Nearly the cost of the whole laptop. WTF?

Does anybody know a better solution. - If there is some place I can buy a replacement screen and fit it myself, then that would probably be the best. (Assuming I can find a suitable technical maintainance manual for it.)

    I'm so depressed! :(

House insurance comes to mind :D
No honestly, if you are covered for accidental damage, check it out. I made sure when I insured my home, I got my computers covered.

Thanks for the replies folks. I am covered on the insurance, but it will be my second claim in a year or so. I know that's what insurance is for but I still feel like I'm going to look criminal to the assessor for some reason! (Then my premium suddenly goes even more rediculously high)

Ebay would be the option I suppose. Are they easy to swap/fix?

Look online for the service manual. It is not that hard.
