Hi,
I have been having issues since upgrading my laptop to windows 7. I initially upgraded to windows 7 32bit and within 30mins the laptop started freezing randomly. Over the last month or so, it hasnt got any better, i have downloaded all the correct drivers and updated everything. Yet nothing stops it.
Due to be a student i was able to get windows prof 7 64 bit so i thought i would do a fresh install, so i formatted my PC and installed the new windows 7. However, the freezing is still happening. Now i have read you can flash you bios which i was a little apprenhensive about. I cant Acers support site and emailed them, and they were no help at all.
I have tried it today and have gotten no where. Tried to run the windows based one from Acer, and it wouldnt run. So then i made my USB stick bootable, downloaded phlash16.exe tried the various ways suggested on this site and others...and all that happens is that it runs in the DOS and just hangs on identifying flash memory part type.
I really dont know what i can do next, and the freezing is getting quite annoying.
Can anyone suggest anything new to try, as i dont get why its not doing anything.

Don't worry. You're not alone. LOL.
My AS6920G has similar problem as you did.
Some claim that installing latest Driver(Windows 7) for some Hardwares might solve the problem.
However, I don't have time to test it out. So, I am on Slowpoke Vista again. -
Got the same problem with bios updating.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
Have to say the links didnt have anything directly related that i hadnt tired already, but the one link i searched for and i found this
http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/9994-random-system-freeze-up-2.html
i have since downloaded the intel matrix storage manager for the chipset.
and it has been an hour i have been doing several different things and even running Second life which would normally always make my computer freeze and nothing so far. So fingers crossed.

Hi, I'm running a x32 win7 install on my 5920 and no freezing issues here without the matrix drivers, is your HD set to AHCI?
Chris -
Same issue for me too.
-
Hey,
I dont know if my HD is AHCI. All i know is that its an Hitachi and since doing the intel update no more freezing at allWhen i looked on the error reporting there seemed to be an issue with atapi and i had researched it and they said it might be the hard drive SATA drivers. Which it seems to be, as the Matrix download has definitely improved the problem. I cant say it wont freeze again as it has been less than 24hrs, but for a computer that froze quite regularly this is good going. So im happy

Hey where can i get this update???
-
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sea...&ProductProduct=Intel®+Matrix+Storage+Manager
if you then pick the operating system you have -

Ahhh im not sure then, but this download seems to have done the trick

For those of you who installed windows 7, does it run smoothly with just 2GB of RAM (you guys have 32 bit or 64 bit?)?
Also did you guys flash or update your BIOS since you guys bought it? I am installing a new HD and am considering that if I should upgrade from vista 32bit to Windows 7 64bit. I bought my laptop in 2007 and the latest BIOS from Acer website for 5920G was from Dec 2008 version 3813. -
i havent flashed my BIOS, as every time i tried it failed. The computer runs perfectly well on windows 7 professional 64bit, once i downloaded the driver to stop it from freezing.

Hey, I just got win7 installed now for 5920G, thanks for the tips about the intel stuff
I had a question, did you guys have 3 unknown devices in your control panel? I know one of them is the webcam, and i have used Halfdone's Unknown device identifier and theres thing thing called the ricoh co ltd memory stick bus host adapter? should we mess around with that?
