I dont think its crashed, the screen simply does not turn on, probably to do with the Nvdia drivers.

Basically if you close the lid, and instantly open it again, before the system enters hibernation, the screen will not turn back on whilst the machine fails to enter hibernation.

If however, you close the lid, and wait for the fan to stop spinning, and the computer to go silent, you will find that the power button starts flashing orange, meaning it has entered sleep mode. You can then press a buton to wake up the notebook.

Its a strange problem, but should be fixed in the future. Just make sure you don't open the lid sraight after closing it, or the screen may not turn back on.

I had this problem, too, and I read the manual and it didn't help at all. However, through experimentation, I found out that to wake the Acer from sleep, you press Fn+F4 (that's also how you send it to sleep). It would have been helpful to read that in the manual.

Most likely driver/vista problem. Try disabling readyboost and unplugging any external devices before going to sleep.

I had the same problem with sleep mode getting BSOD, I narrowed it down to issue with my VBox ATSC tuner and Nvidia drivers. If I didn't have ATSC tuner plugged in, it worked fine. I ended up selling and getting different ATSC tuner that had hardware decoder builtin and better drivers at that time.

had the same problem...this is my solution:

GO TO DEVICE MANAGER -> NETWORK ADAPTERS -> BROADCOM NETLINK.....(IF YOU HAVE A LAN INTERNET CONECTION) -> ADVANCED -> WAKE UP CAPABILITIES -> NONE ....AT POWER MANAGEMENT TAB I'VE CHECKED THE "ALOW THE COMPUTER TO TURN OFF THIS DEVICE TO SAVE POWER" OPTION...
THIS MADE MY VISTA SLEEP WORKING ...NO PROBLEMS TILL NOW
