    Hi,

    Since a few hours the battery indicator on my Acer Aspire 5920G is blinking (red to green). It started after I tried to install a fresh Windows.
    When it tried to boot the CD it showed up all kind of weird Ascii signs, made a strange noise, and then rebooted.
    The light doesnt stop blinking (only when the battery cable is removed AND the laptop is turned off).
    I first thought it had something to do with the battery, it also appeared that way after looking on google, but there is nothing wrong with it.
    When I unplug the cable it still tells me it will last for about 3 hours and doesnt go dead or anything.

    Could the indicator also point at other hardware failure? It kind of concerns me :(

    Thanks

    never heard of a RED LIGHT blinking.... sounds like a hardware failure may be a possibility

    let me do some checking

    i could find NO refrence to RED LED for the battery light...
    it's normally AMBER when charging and GREEN when charge is complete...

    there is nothing in the SERVICE GUIDE covering that....

    so i'd call ACER and get thier take on the subject

    just a thought....

    turn off the system.... remove the battery and the power cord

    then hold down the POWER BUTTON FOR 30 SECONDS

    then hook AC power cord back up...

    does it start blinking right away?? will it boot up or atleast try to boot when you press the power button now??

    if that works shut it down and replace battery ... does it blink at this point..
    does it boot or try to boot at this point??

    let me know what happens

    bigO

    Oh sorry, yea I said it was red but it is indeed orange/amber.
    It only has to do with the amber light.. that's the one blinking.
    I left it unplugged for a while and then charged it again.. the green was no longer visible but the amber one is still blinking.

    EDIT: Ok I'll that in a moment

    I also checked my eventlog and it shows up these kinds of errors a lot... I'm not sure whether they have something to do with it:

    An error was detected on device \Device\CdRom0 during a paging operation.

    The device, \Device\CdRom0, has a bad block.

    This possibly has something to do with the Windows CD I'm trying to boot, not sure it has anything to do with the blinking light though.

    I'm now going to try what you suggested..

    Hmm it appeared to have worked.. it no longer blinks. What exactly did the 30s do? Some sort of BIOS reset? And by telling you that it worked, can you somehow try to conclude what caused it?
    Thanks anyway :D

    that is exactly what it does as far as i know... it resets the BIOS settings to factory defaults and kinda clears up some of those pesky little issues like you were having...

    Glad it worked for you,
