My Hard drive runs around 40 C. I know that this one is ok. My processor cores stay around 27-30 C. Also running just fine. I was wondering about my ACPI temps. Always at 49-50C, and sometimes as high as 57 c.
Where is this chip? When I removed the fan to replace my processor I noticed another chip with heat compound on it. Is this the chip that this reading is coming from? Is this reading to high?

hmm - your cpu core's temps are quite low - try to use everest - that should give you reliable readings. My cpu is about 45 up to 50 - depends on what the cpu is doing (in external power mode), gpu 52-53, and hdd about 39-40. Nothing oc'ed. I keep my laptop quite clean so these temps should be average for this model (only one fan). I don't think you should be worried about it though I'm not an expert. Perhabs someone has better knowledge on this matter.

anyone else?

When my laptop had a Celeron in it,, it ran hot-hot-hot... rarely did CPU temp drop below 45c and i've seen it at 78c under heavy load (only 1 time, then i cleaned the fan exhaust out)... anyway since upgrading to a Core 2 Duo my Cpu temps are below 43c @ idel or browsing web... upto 53 before fan cools back below 45c...
so if your temps are staying above 50c all the time you could have a blocked exhaust fan.... worth checking out if you are comfortable "under the hood"
hope it helps,

New to these forum...so please excuse any infelicities of presentation.
I have the 5920...C2D, T5550, 1.8Ghz, 667 Mhz FSB, 2GB, X3100GMA, 160 HDD.
I was trying out the SpeedFan test and the average temps that SpeedFan reports are:
Temp 1: 60C (I am assuming that this is the CPU reading)
HDD: 40 - 50C
Core 0: 51 - 55 C
Core 1: 51 - 55 C
The machine feels considerably warmer than my Sony Vaio (FE 28B) that I had previously, which inexplicably died on me. Other than this vague comparison, I have no other...
So, are these temps average or should I take the unit back to the store and see about a replacement.
BTW, the machine came pre-loaded with a linux flavour which I ditched and clean installed XP Pro.
The above temps are when I am running Opera (4 tabs open), one Word 2007 document, YM, GTalk, and the usual anti virus and firewall.
Thanks in advance for your help! -
Hi, while I am writing this in my bed, the temps are as follows....
ACPI 46
core 0 42
core 1 42
Gpu 52
Hdd 29
This obviously depends on where you are using it and for what purpose. At the minute I am in bed with laptop on my knee so there is no air getting in to the fan, when I put this on my home made laptop cooler to play a game, the GPU will go as low as 38 degrees. -
-
BTW...its strange that I cannot find a list of average temperatures of the 5920 anywhere. What I do get is anecdotal info. Any ideas where I can find this information?
Thanks -
I use CPUID Hardware monitor.
By the way, my temps are hotter at the minute, I am in the front room and the fire is roasting in here lol.
Temps......
ACPI 47
CPU 0 44
CPU 1 44
GPU 58
HDD 37 -
Well...the summer's coming on here where I am and the room I am sitting at the moment, though the overhead fan is on is about 35-37C and it is 3:00 am in the morning! The temperatures on my machine are:
HDD: 50C
ACPI: 60C
CPU0: 53C
CPU1: 53C
After reading the posts here on this issue, if I add in say 2-5C for the ambient temperature, I still figure my machine is around 8-10C higher than yours and for the life of me not only do I not know why, but I dont also know what to do!
Anyways, I have set up a meeting with the Acer guys here and lets see where it gets me. After I am done, I'll report back. Meanwhile, can anyone tell me what the optimal temperatures of the 5920 are, rather should be? Please? Without any undervolting or any other tweaking?
Thanks, -
hello guys.. this may sound scary,
My GPU has touched 97 without overclocking with 174.74 driver. This is only when i play age of empire III on high settings. All other games reach a max of 88. I have given enough ventilation but by ambient room temperature is around 30 degs.
So will this harm my gpu? or is there some problem with the driver? i have never seen this record!
thanks, -
I am very new here so please do take that into account...but while trying to learn about the 5920 heat-related issues, I came across this thread, which may be of help to you...

Hope this helps.

Nice info. Thank

Hmmm...there is something I do have to report...actually two things...
(1) Acer's service center in the city that I am currently in sucks! They had no idea whether the machine was overheating up...then I showed them the SpeedFan, Everest, and RM Clock utilities...they had no clue these existed! But they did nod their heads vigourously when they saw the temperature readings. Some of them even tried to convince me after a wait of an hour maybe more that they had spoken to the guy who wrote SpeedFan! and that he advised them that the temperatures were normal!!! I found that very funny and I told them that too!
When I asked them about underclocking, they had no clue what they were talking about. In fact I also spoke to the regional tech head and he too had no clue...all in all a wasted day!
(2) But, I did download the newest bios driver (3811) and the ePowering whatever (for XP)...and there has been a slight difference in the temperatures will no ill effects thus far - touch wood! Though I will hasten to add two things - (1) the temperature difference is about 1-2 degrees C and (2) the ambient temperature is around 40 degrees C around noon and early late afternoon...so I guess that needs to be factored in but by how much I am not quite sure - say around 5 degrees C maybe?
Best!
Edit: BTW, the Acer regional tech head could also not tell me what the average temperatures of the machine should be...though I did point out to him that the literature that came in the box with the machine did say that it had been temperature tested...so he must...or at least should know what the average operational temperatures are! -
These people at acer Customer support are just illiterate ! We can only get some useful info from the real designers of 5920g i guess.
-
I wish to install it and try for my Aspire 5920g, seem can control the temperature abit. Now is 86c when i playing bioshock.. -
I downloaded the bios for the 5920, but the Acer reseller from whom I bought the machine had the XP version of the empowering tech on his pen drive and he uploaded it for me. If you are interested, I can ask him for copies and maybe mail them to you...but I can only do so on Monday since I am not at home base right now...do let me know.
Please note that I think it was the bios upgrade that did the temperature control and not the empowering tech...though you can apparently control the cpu speed with this acer software...i have tried it and noticed so really significant difference....either way, let me know.
Thanks -
Dear Readers,
I bought this model from Acer:
After playing 1hour WOW I got artifacts due boiling GPU. (120fps+)
Is this normal? I brought it back to store and recovered my money..
Now what to do? Was I unlucky? Or.. perhaps I shouldnt buy a laptop at all for gaming?..
Thanks in advance!

core0 70-75 celcius
core170-75 celcius
gpu 85-92 celcius
hdd 41-44 celcius..
I use 174.31 driver.. and I hav ZALMAN NOTEBOOK COOLLER
is it normally? or I go to the service???? -
As far as I can see most heat related issues are due to ambient room temps or there about. Notebooks are much more prone to heat issues than desktops and thererore more attention is needed to try and keep vents free, fans clean and air cool that goes into the air intake fan. When I play games, just but moving my laptop over the edge of the table allowing more air into the intake fan, will keep it at least 5 degrees cooler. Little things lke this all help.
There are very powerful notebooks out there that will still need cooling, its not just an Acer problem. I know from past experience that trying to get every ounce of performance out of my desktop will raise the temps no end, so by fitting a better cooler than the standard one, will help.
All I am basically trying to say here is, if you want your notebook for gaming etc which is constantly using high amounts of power, you will get high temps. I know there are exceptions and some notebooks are faulty but most just need adequate cooling. -
True...but it would be nice to know what the average temperatures are for the 5920...pity I can't seem to find the 'official' numbers anywhere...!
Cheers! -
I can mail you the Acer Empowering for Windows XP by mid week - say around Thursday...let me know when and how.
Thanks -
What software do u use to find CPU temp?
-
Cheers! -
it is the nvidia gpu that causes the overheating. see NVIDIA G84 G86 FIASCO
-
so does the new BIOS allow you to alter the speed of the fans?
