    Hello,

I just bought an Acer Aspire 5920G-302G16N laptop (5 days old).
But I encountered a problem that happened twice now. :(

    1. While I was using the computer, the processor usage meter hit 100%. Initially, I thought this was just a normal occurrence that it will drop down to normal in a while. Unfortunately, it did not. So I closed all the applications I was using in an attempt to determine the problem. But still, even with no application running, it was at 100%.

    2. So I tried to open the task manager. When I did so, the "empowering technology" application stopped responding.

    3. After a while, the task manager stopped responding as well.

    4. So in a last ditch effort, I resorted to restarting the computer normally from the start menu. At first it seemed to restart normally but then it stopped in the "logging off user" screen. So, I had no choice but to force/cold shutdown the computer.

So, do you think the problem is with my hardware? Or is it a Vista problem?

Does any one know or have any idea of the problem? Or a possible solution?

    Any help would be appreciated.

What programs were you running at the time? It's no good saying,"So I closed all the applications I was using in an attempt to determine the problem"...

Did you check the Task Manager?
What process was using 100% CPU?

I have had problems before with Windows Media Player utilising 100% CPU. But this was with WMP11 on XP.

Mozilla Firefox, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft word 07. That's it.

It was using 100% CPU usage of Core 1. What "it" is, I don't know.

I tried to check the task manager. But after a few seconds after I opened it, it stopped responding.

If you are using Vista then the search service will use up loads of CPU for a few hours as it will index the whole hard disk. Once it has finished the CPU usage should go back to normal levels.

You should be able to google instructions for turning it off if you want.
