    Hi guys.

I've been hunting round reading reviews for these both the Aspire 5920G and 7720G. I've heard lots of good and little bad about the machines and am seriously considering purchasing one (I'm in the UK btw).

Now this will be acting as a desktop replacement. It will be moved around but not a great deal so portability is not at the top of my list. I will be using the replacement for music, dvds, web, photo's, academic work (no gaming).

Now I am new to the laptop scene and have found the 5920G and 7720G both at the same price.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the 7720G the same as 5920G but with a 17'' screen and a 320gb hdd? That's a hell of an upgrade for the same price!? Like I said I am new to the laptop scene.

Any suggestion on which I should purchase? Although it is quite obvious in my books.

Any help will be much appreciated. ;)
    Thank you.

Oh one other thing. One thing I've noticed from reviews is the resolution of these machines, it's not great. I'm using 1280x1024 at the moment so I will notice a big difference. Do any of you guys find the resolution to be a problem at all?

    HD-DVD

If you're really stuck with these two choices, then I suggest getting the 7720G, because as you've mentioned, you don't game. The price similarity probably comes from the 7720G having a poorer GPU than the 5920G [8400M GS vs 8600M GS]. You'll probably want the bigger screen and higher res, too. 1440x900 would be fine for you. It's not smaller than 1280x1024. In fact, it's wider although a bit shorter [height].

Oh, and welcome to NBR! :)

Hi SMH827, I have the 5920g and I find its a very capable machine. I saw the 7720 sitting next to it and I had the same choice to make, I chose this because of the portability and the graphics card as I do play the odd game.
Max resolution is 1280 x 800 on this.
Where are you getting it from ? I found Comet to be as cheap as anyone and sometimes they will throw in something too if you ask. Mine cost £599 just over 1 month ago which was £100 off their usual price, the cheapest I could find at the time, although since I have seen it cheaper.

I have GT version of 5920G. I choose this for gaming and protabilitywise i cannot handle a 17 inch-ER as this one is itself 3 KGS !!
