    Hi All,

First post so thanks for having me,

I bought an Aspire 5943G yesterday but the performance has been quite frankly terrible, it's only running starcraft 2 on the lowest setting at 5 frames per second, which is unplayable.

    The WEI scores are

    Processor - 1.9
    RAM - 1.9
    Graphics - 2.9
    Gaming Graphics - 6.7
    Primary Hard Disk - 5.8

These seem very low, so am I experiencing a hardware fault or have I been missold this product?

    Many thanks in advance

    Jeremy

Check if you're in balanced mode and use software like CPU-Z to monitor your CPU frequency while under load.
Report back that value. Also- what's the actual config of your machine?

    Hi there,

The computer is running in high performance mode, as for the other questions, -

    CPU-Z CPU stats -

Core Speed - 399.1 MHz (Edit - this occasionally spikes up to 532MHz but never more than for a second)
    Multiplier - x 3.0 (Edit - this spikes to x4 simultaneously)
    Bus Speed - 133.0 MHz
    QPI Link - 2394.4MHz

    Computer Config -

    Intel Core i5-460M processor - 2.53GHz
    ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
    4 GB DDR3 Memory
    500GB Hardrive

Sorry if that's not what you meant!

Go into advanced settings of a power-profile you're using and verify that max CPU state is set to 100%.
What is happening is your CPU is working at 400MHz max instead of 2530MHz (+TurboBoost)

I just checked and they were already set to 100%, although the video cards were set to power save and swapping that has now raised the rates to about 2800MHz when resting or just browsing which has sped up the way the computer runs enormously, which is great.

This however drops back down to 400MHz when I try and open up games (starcraft 2), so I'm getting all of the processing power when I don't need it. Any idea what might be causing that?

EDIT - The processing power also fades away after about 1 minute of a video on youtube

This kind of speed should be impossible (Arrandale CPUs don't go that low at all)- it may be an emergency procedure (throttling) due to thermal issues.
Use HWMonitor to check the CPU temperature when idle and when under load.

Did you buy the notebook new or is it a used unit?

The laptop was bought new, which is why I'm so surprised.

The processor is running at a maximum temperature of 52, average 49, and I never felt it heat up once in the last two days, nor have I ever heard the fan speed change, which I also thought odd.

Sorry to keep coming back with problems and I'm very much appreciating the help!

    Hello and welcome to NBR!

It sounds wired as the laptop is brand new. What I could suggest you is to try a BIOS update. Also, have you checked the BIOS for any settings?
