I have an Acer Aspire 6530 that's about 3 years old. I've had to replace the AC adapter a few times in those years, twice warrantied. Now out of warranty after an aftermarket ebay adapter broke, I bought a brand new official acer adapter. After 2 days of use it stopped working and it's noticeably melted! It was elevated and wasn't on or under anything that would cause it to overheat like that. The battery is old and barely holds a charge and the laptop itself is prone to overheating. The power jack has a missing cover but the pin and jack do not appear to be loose but maybe there is a short or loose connection internally? Maybe replacing the battery will reduce the heat? The ac adapter was always prone to getting very hot...

I have the same problem with my 6920g. I think the problem is that we are using a too low watt adapter and taxing the inverter too much.

if you can you should go on the acer website and see if you can order a 90w adapter (even if it doesn't officially say it works with your machine) if it eats that order a 120w adapter.

That is unless you really do have an electrical problem, then you should replace your power jack/motherboard.

To balance that out- I have a 6920G in the family and it works fine with 90W PSU regardless of the load.

Yeah, I originally had a 65w supply because I built my machine from parts from my 6920 (onboard video) and a cheap for parts 6920g off of ebay. That one fried pretty quick and I didn't know any better, so I got another... and another.

I went through 3 by the time I figured out the problem

Great, I will try a 90w power source, thanks. Which 90w should I order? Are all Acer charger plugs the same size?

Yes. All of them (or almost all) use the same connector- in your case that would be the same 90W that's used with 6920G or 5740G and many others.
Mind you there's no guarantee that new PSU will help.

Yea, downloads is right. The new psu might not help if your dc jack is messed up. But I think it is worth a try.

I don't think laptops with the old AMD turions and athlons are meant to run on 65w, for example the MSI gx630 comes with a 120w adapter even though it only has a 9600m GT ddr3.

    O
It doesnt matter because your hardware will only pull as much wattage as you need. I think the only thing about ordering the 90w power supply is it generates less heat and lasts longer because of it.

Edit* unless you meant that 65w is not enough. :D
