Hey folks. This is an issue that I've had since day one as I can recall. And I always see it but never care about it, but since I've been playing games more often lately, It's come to my attention that it's pretty annoying.
It only happens in some games at some times. I haven't noted it in Doom 3, but I have noticed in A LOT in Tomb Raider Legend and only occasionally in World of Warcraft. I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware issue as it only happens during some games and never outside of games.
I'm pretty sure it's not the driver either, as I've tried several drivers from Acer and have yet to see a difference. Any ideas? I have the Intel 965 chip. (3100?)
As a side note, there is not a drop in FPS when the flickering occurs.

Flickering, how? Is it artifacting, black bars or what? Make sure you have vertical sync on, it can cause horizontal flickering if turned off.

And please download Intel's official driver here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx

    Acer's drivers are outdated.

When I upgraded to 7 a few weeks ago, it downloaded a different driver from Intel, shouldn't it be updated? I'll be sure to check that I have the latest though.
What is archiving in this context? I've never heard of it before except for reading it in a few threads here and there.
As far as what It looks like, it's like a white ghost image that pops up in random areas. Say I'm watching a cutscene in Tomb Raider, a quick white (almost ghost image) of what appears to be a future scene or a previous scene in the cutscene. I think it also does this during gameplay but I don't remember for sure. I might be able to get some video of it later.

I checked my Tomb Raider settings (the game that does it the most) and it has Vsync enabled.
I'll try to update the driver, if that doesn't work, I'll let ya'll know.

Probably a VGA card issue. It looks like the card is overheating

Is there a temp monitor that I can run for this chip? I don't notice any overheating from the bottom of the case when this happens. Also, when I filmed this, the laptop was cool and the game had only been running for a moment. I didn't actually play the game, just played unlocked Cinematics.

download GPU-Z and that will log the temps.

Auch, I don't think it's the temperatures - You have a defective card. No doubt.

Hm. Well, warranty was quite some time ago. And I've never had issues with it and still don't. It's not that big of a deal. It only does it in a few games, and the FPS are good so I won't complain.

Also, when I check the device, it says it's working properly.

GPU-Z Didn't tell me the temps, or at least, I couldn't find it.

    Sensor tab in main window.

I also think that will be a card problem. When the card reaches the highest temp under full load, it always clocked down and the driver probably stopped to work and when it recovers than comes the flickering. I had this thing on my Asus G50vt

The only info that the Sensors tab is providing is: GPU Core Clock- 500.0 MHz and GPU Memory Clock- 0.0 MHz

    That's rather bothersome.

    So no other deductions? Defective?

I figured the unit was probably a little on the wonky side when the case started cracking.

    *Sigh*
