Hi, this is a thread of something i am sure has come up time and time agein. I am wanting to try and overclock my cpu and GPU. on my laptop i have the intel T8100 64bit based system @ 2.1ghz. The GPU is the nvidia 9500GS at 512MB. Motherboard chipset is allso intel tho im not too sure of teh model.
Now, i've heard that nvidia gpus have a problem of overheating and overclocking is iladvised but one thing i've noticed about this laptop is its unique ability to stay cool. weather i use my laptop for gaming or regular use, weather on my lap or on a hard surface teh temperature seem to stay teh same. GPU at roughly 56c and cpu at rougly 33c so im not too worried about the heat issues.
I havent been able to find a software to oc teh processor but GPU tools i have tried the Nvidia system tool tray, and i have tried RivaTuner 2.10. when using nvidia tools if i try to increase the core clock speed i just get "change invalid, will not be put to use" allthough i am able to increase the shade clock speed as much as i possibly want. I can reduce teh clock speed. but then i am unable to change it back to default. i changed my core clock to 175 just to see if it would work, and ofc it did, but had to uninstall teh system tools to get it back to default clock speed. The rivatune will change the clock speed, but only not really. it will accept the change, but when u check clockspeed it will remain unchanged and when i went in rivatuner agein to see, it had gone back to default core clock.
Is there any software that i can OC my system, if so please give spesifics. i am not experienced with this, i have only owned laptops my whole life and have simply assumed manufacturers did not allow change in clock speed as u could not change it in BIOS.
PS i have a 64bit vista installed on my system. appreciate an help thank you

Add 15°C to the cpu. Some program shows wrong temp. I found that out when i read my cpu was at -2°C... Look at the nvidia tool for the temp if you don't trust me. For the OC, did you save our new setting in a profile? It was the step I missed that solved the issue
-
Hi i do use Nvidia tools to check teh temp
it says 33 degreeds right now. and i've just been playing turok on my lap. And no, i didnt save it as a profile first, i'll check it out thanks
-
But look at the temp when you are not doing something. They should bot e below room temp. What is your notebook? I read again your first post, and is your 33°C mesured while playing or while in idle mode?(best english word I found)
-
i calculated 33C alittle after playing. i checked agein now after running a cpu benchmark and cpu is now at 41C even at idle i dont think i have seen the cpu below 30C but i usually dont check temp without having done something on it first. Back to the overclocking. I tried saving the profile wich works, but when i try and update the profile to load it. instead of loading my test profile wich was at 500mhz rather then 475 it just went back to teh factory default profile.
Could the bios be the problem or should that not matter seing as i am trying to use a software to overlock. The bios installed is teh V1.05 i tried installing the V1.10 but it did not seem compatible with 64bit. and so didnt try any of the others since acer site was warning about trying to install bios not ment for 64bit OS -
I have the same laptop and card, it's strange. For your OC, mine worked with rivatuner, maybe you've used the nvidia thing, you didn't tell us.
-
yeah sorry for not making that specific of wich program i used for temperature, i just didnt think it was important as it wasnt temperature i was focusing on
and yeah i've annoyed my self with this alot, because i have read on these forums ppl saying its so easy to Overclock using rivatuner and what not. maby i am just stupid and not doing something. or there is some driver i need and im just not getting it. I am currently using the "VGA_nVidia_8PGS_8ESE_v7.15.11.7451_Vistax64" drivers as Acer do not seem to have updated drivers for the 9series card for 64bit os. but i tried with both 32bit vista and 64bit but still had same problems. is there any chance u can explain step by step what you do, what drivers and programs u use etc? please i know im probably being a pain in ur *** right now, but i really want this to work
-
rKnight, there actually was an updated Acer driver for the 9-Series - it's just not posted to Acer's website.
Try 176.37, but make sure you've got a backup ready to go just in case things go sour. -
Ah thanks alot
appreciate it, will get it right away
-
and no you're not a pain to us. Just try to help back other people

Everyone starts off at the ground level, rKnight.
Keep learning, and you'll be helping us out in time.
Welcome to the forums! -
Thanks alot for teh support guys
finally made it work with the new drivers! i will definately be helping others when i can, software im no expert at but if someone need to know how to take appart a del laptop or acer laptop, i've pretty much picked them to pieces and experimnted with different things when things have gone wrong, so will try to help others just like i have gotten help :=) agein thanks alot

Wait, you were able to OC with 176.37?
Interesting...
EDIT: So yeah, I can edit the shaders in 175.61, 176.37, and the stock 174.51 drivers using RivaTuner, but not core clock or memory. What good will faster shaders do?
