I've got a huge problem regarding my internet connection.
I've been at university for 3/4 of a year now, so I know this isnt the fault of the uni's routers. My friends are also able to play internet games with ease.
However, I believe I made a stupid mistake and may have accidently deleted an important file enabling me to connect to the internet. I now have to connect to the internet on my laptop by going to:
control panel > network & internet > internet options > connections > LAN settings and then enable a proxy server in order to make the internet connect at all.
Ofcourse, this now means I cant access particular things such as itunes online, lan games with my friends on campus and connecting to applications such as Valve's "Steam" online features.
So yeah, Im not sure why this has suddenly happened. I don't know what I've deleted but I know its probably something important. Or maybe it just happened randomly, I dont know. But please help me out!
Regards,
Fuz

Hi Fuzileer, and welcome to the forums!
Are you able to make a System Restore back to when your internet worked?
Do you have any backups to roll back to?
Do you have the latest Intel wireless and Atheros LAN drivers?
Might be time to burn those Acer eRecovery DVDs so you can pull a restore to factory default and get internet working again. -
Hi there, and thanks
1) I will be able to in a month when I return home from uni; stupidly i left the disk behind which i guess is needed for the whole restore.
2) Yeah I do have some backups
3) I dont know if I do have the latest... -
I was referring to a Windows System Restore, the built-in functionality that lets you roll your system back to an earlier time.
Click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore (or just type System Restore in the search bar if you're on Windows 7), pick an earlier point in time when the Internet worked, and go for it!
System Restores are reversible, which means if something else got boogered, you can return to your previous state. -
What OS are you using ?
Can your friends access Steam, iTunes from your room using the same internet connection you use (many Uni's now bar the the above sort of things from their networks but in other parts of the campus you can use e.g. students union WiFi to gain open access)
Does your laptop access all the above if you use it at someone's off campus private accomodation ?
