OK, so I knew something was up when my CPU was overheating doing nothing when surfing the web in my new (un-air-conditioned) apartment.
So I ran down to the nearest computer store and got a can of air, expecting dust buffaloes in my system fan.
I open the system up...and the fan is fine. A little dusty, but nothing too bad.
I flip over the back panel, and OH MY GOD.
Apparently, Acer saw fit to install a mesh screen behind the back panel to keep dust out. Unfortunately, it has the adverse effect of getting dust drawn in through the vents, getting stuck in the mesh, and thus cutting off airflow from the fan.
A few quick air blasts later, and I'm running at 41 degrees on idle.
    Ha-bloody-ha.

Any other 6920G users with the same problem (Bladezor, Kittie, etc.) should probably look into this.

EDIT: I believe I spoke too soon - the darn thing overheated again on a routine virus scan. Looks like I might have to find more drastic means to cool my system...or wait until the sun goes down.

I don't know for his cpu, but mine shows 15°C below real temp with hwmonitor. I think coretemp is better

Do not be so dramatic ... use a cooling pad , there so cheap , three fans powered by USB.

I downloaded both coretemp and hwmonitor, newest versions of course, a couple of days ago and they show the same temps :)

HWMonitor and RMClock both show 15 degrees below real temp. Use RealTemp or (surprisingly) the NVidia System Monitor.
I'm Canadian - TehSuigi is just my online alias b/c I ran a webcomic a while ago under a similar name.

And the system's running fine now - I think it was b/c I put the lid down (stoopid).
And a cooling pad is next on the list, after undervolting.

I meant realtemp yeah, and nvidia system monitor?!? And I know you are canadian. I'm near montreal, that's why I asked. And ondervolting saved me near 15°C on my t5750, so I guess it will greatly help you.

And lke tehsuigi said, nvidia system monitor does show the true temp. From what I've read, there are 2 type of sensor(thermal diode sensor and another I forgot). The one realtemp and nvidia use are supposed to be the best one.

So yeah, also discovered that my CPU does the downclock dirty at 70 degrees on one core. Gonna start undervolting soon, once I have a new Complete PC Backup - the last time, it fried my Vista install. NOT a fun day.
