    Hi, all.
I got a similar problem, but it's much more annoying.

I use Acer Aspire 6920G (Core2Duo T5750, GeForce 9500M GS, 4GB RAM, Windows Vista) for 2 years and suddenly a year ago it started to turn off because of temperatures. At the beginning I didn't know what's going on, because I wasn't doing anything new. I used to play demanding games since I bought my acer and it was never overheating. It was cool and the only sign of a hard work computer was doing was a little noisier fan.

For the first months after it has gone mad I've taken off the back case (I didn't saw anything suspicious) and then bought a cool pad.
Now, without the back case and standing on a cool pad, when normal using - CPU temp is about 40-50C and GPU's about 50-60C.
When playing games it goes up and turns off the computer when GPU reaches about 85C. I think it does the same when CPU reaches about 75C, but usually GPU is first.

Just let me add that with Anno 1404 opened it takes 10-15 minutes to reach such temperatures.
Since some time I use SpeedFan and I set it up to blip when temps reach a certain level, so I could minimize the game and let my acer cool down.

I think there are no words that would express my gratitude if someone could help me with that. I would also be grateful for a potential explanation of the problem.

Xyp, welcome to the forums! I'm sorry to hear that it's because your 6920G is acting up.
I moved your post into its own topic in order to increase its visibility.

Those temps with the buttplate off and on a cooling pad are a little on the high side for idle. Have you cleaned your 6920G's internals of dust? Have you changed the thermal compound on the CPU and GPU?

    Just a question..
What are normal temps for CPU and GPU in the 6920g that you'd normally expect?

CPU should be idling in the 30s-40s, and in the 60-70s under stress. Higher than 80 is cause for alarm.

    lol cheers
    my GPU seems fine...
just my CPU is at 20C-30C under strees... core1 is 5-11C idle...
and i thought that that seemed a bit... low....

Did I mention that some monitoring software has trouble reading the 6920G's sensors? :)
