I've recently downgraded an Aspire 6930 from Vista to XP and am having difficulty getting the computer to recognize that it has a modem! If I can just get the ethernet/modem/WiFi up and working I'd be set. Does anyone have any idea where I can find the drivers I need to get this thing up and working? Thanks!

Yourmine, keep in mind that Acer rarely provides XP drivers for its latest models - they support Vista only.
That being said, the XP drivers can be found from the part manufacturer's website.
We can help you look if you post the kind of wireless card, Ethernet card, and modem you have.

Thanks so much for your reply. I believe I've managed to find the ethernet and wifi drivers from intel. However, I can't seem to find any modem info for this acer model. It seems to me that Acer is rather reluctant to provide any system info for it's products. I couldn't even find tech support info in the paperwork provided with the computer.

Good job on getting the Intel ethernet/wifi drivers.
I haven't even installed the drivers for my modem yet - guess I should. ;)
Where I live and go, there always seems to be ample broadband. Lucky me. ^_^

That being said, take a look at the Acer Euro FTP's directory for Aspire 6930 drivers here. They've got two for the modem - make a system restore point and try one, then the other.

As I stated above, there is no one place for the drivers - you'll need to go to the individual part manufacturer's websites to get the XP drivers there.

People, before you downgrade from Vista to XP, launch Vista, go to Device Manager, write down the names/numbers of installed devices, go online and download the XP drivers of those devices for XP.

It's the first rule, because companies have moved away from XP.

Besides, where do you think Acer and other companies get their Vista drivers?
    From manuf. websites as well.
So get off your lazy rear end, use your cerebral cortex and get to work.
    :D

    Also, burn your recovery discs!!!
Maybe we should have a sticky for this.

Unfortunately the information I was given when I agreed to take on downgrading this computer (belongs to my boss) was incorrect. She told me that she had burned all of the system restore and back up disks. What she'd really burned were backups of her files. Oh well, turned a one day job into a 5 day job.

Thanks everyone for the help. Can I beg just a little more of your time.

I've managed to get everything working except the modem. Neither of the modem drivers on the FTP site work. (They are both for Vista) Does anyone have a lead on the XP driver for the PCI modem in this model?

Again, thanks so much for your help.

Will you use the modem? If not - just disable the device, this is what I did ;)

D'oh! Right, I forgot I linked you to the Vista drivers. At least maybe those can point you in the right direction for the XP ones.
