I have a Aspire 6930G, I want to upgrade to windows 7, from Vista. But this laptop came with Vista recovery CD's so the drivers are on those CD's can I still reformat and just put the drivers CD inside and reinstall them after I've changed to windows 7? By the way, I want to completely format the Hard Drive before I do any of this...

The Global Acer website - http://www.acer.com/worldwide/selection.html has all the Windows 7 drivers (32 & 64bit) for the 6930G apart from the Synaptics TouchPad and the Empowering Technology Software. I can understand why the Empowering Techonlogy software is missing but it is strange why Acer seem to have forgotten about the Synaptics TouchPad. You also need to get Adobe Flash Active X from adobe site.

    Windows 7 Test - Reformatting Drive C
I did a test Windows 7 install and reformatted my drive (NOTE - C Drive only, therfore KEEPING the 2 Hidden Recovery Partitions). All the new Windows 7 drivers on the global acer website worked. Intel Chipset was the only tricky install. I used version 9.1.1.1015 with the -overall command from Administration/Elevated DOS prompt (setup.exe -overall). Note - the chipset goes on first and the dos prompt has to be elevated with adminstration rights.

    Windows 7 Aero Lag BUG
However I was getting the Windows 7 Aero Lag or Stutter in the animation when opening/closing individual windows (looks like a bug in Windows 7 graphics engine). See official Microsoft Site http://social.answers.microsoft.com...e/thread/91dd2caf-eb09-40e3-ac7f-92635d23b237

Recovery CD Back To Vista SP2
I used the acer recovery cd and returned back to Vista SP1 without any problems (note - I used the recovery cd since I don't trust recovery partitions in case of possible virus infection of this partition). Since this worked OK I also tested out my Drive C Image back to Vista SP2 and this also worked fine.

    Advice
My advice would be to get the latest Windows 7 drivers from the Acer Website rather then use old Vista drivers. Also make all the acer recovery CDs and I would Image the whole hard disk PLUS ADDITIONALLY image all the individual partitions (including/particularly Imaging the recovery partitions).

One thing that has just occurred to me is that if you bought an Acer 6930G with VISTA pre-installed and promised a Free Upgrade to Windows 7, then I would phone up Acer and complain that they have only supplied a VISTA driver disk with the Windows 7 upgrade.

I would be expecting Windows 7 upgrade to come with Wndows 7 Drivers CD if the laptop was bought with the promise of free upgrade.

Alternatively do what I did in the above post (although I did use the FULL Version of Windows 7). Although I would be complaining to Acer straight away if it was part of the official buy Vista laptop now and get free windows 7 upgrade later programme.
