    Hi there

This laptop (Acer Aspire 6930g, T5800, 9300M GS, 250gb HDD 3gb DDR2/3 unsure about that bit) has stickers all over saying FULL HD 1080p playback

The problem im having is there is no 1080p resolution since in installed Windows Vista Ultimate x64. The max resolution used to be 1920x1080 the best i can see is 1366x768 which IMHO is pap,

The geforce drivers i am using are these ones
    http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/geforce_notebook_winvista64_179.28_beta_uk.html

so my question is how can i unleash the graphics so they're up to scratch for my 1080p BDVD's??

also while im on the subject of graphics, I popped the upgrade panel off to see what upgrade options the laptop has, there are 2bays for hdd's 1 used. 2 mem slots 2gb+1gb installed, and also a Square shaped chip which slides out (i think thats the gfx card)
Can the gfx be upgraded in these as i see a few people with the twinned laptop but they have 4gb RAM, 350gb HDD and 9600m gs graphics. I would love to upgrade the graphics if possible maybe if someone can point me in the right direction for upgrades.

But for now I'd like to know how to add the 1920x1080 resolution to the list if anyone knows

    Thanks in advance

    Rob

well no one seems to know so im just gonna have to wait for another driver update. unless anyone knows if there is a better driver than the one i am currently using?? (will the non whql ones work??) maybe a one which has the hd settings in NVIDIA Control Panel. or has the driver im using got the hd options but hidden??

For example, i have a pc which has an ok video card in it, in nvidia control panel i can select hd settings on the left with all the different options (720p, 1080I/P) anyone know how to get them visible???

I think there may be some confusion here - unfortunately Acer promotes its notebooks as having "Full HD 1080p playback" but not a 1080p screen.
The Aspire 69xx and 89xx models do come with both 1080p and 1366x768 screens, and unless your driver can restore the 1920x1080 resolution, you've probably got the lower resolution screen.
Best way to find out would be to post your model number - it should be on your sticker, 6930-(four numbers).

And as for drivers, Nvidia provides their own notebook drivers now. They come with Acer customizations right out of the box, and even allow for GPU overclocking using Nvidia System Tools.

(don't worry about them being called beta - they are actually full drivers with WHQL certification)

My 6920G says full HD 1080p playback but its rez is 1366x768. Full HD means it can play said movies (has the CPU, GPU, and RAM to do so) but doesn't necessarily mean it has the rez.

Guys, the OP actually has a problem, not that his notebook doesn't support 1080 resolution.

From the above I understand that he actually HAD this resolution available but he lost it after the Vista Ultimate x64 installation.

    Ah. My bad!
In that case, there's a way to add 1920x1080 to any Nvidia driver. No reinstallation required!
Crack open the Nvidia Control Panel, and make sure you're on the Advanced Settings view.
Open up the Display drop-down, and pick Manage custom resolutions.
Click the Create button, and specify 1920 as the horizontal and 1080 as the vertical. Leave everything else as is.
    That might just work!

Methinks he's hoping to upgrade to more - the new 4 Series chipset supports up to 8GB of RAM.

thanks to all for the replies, I'm just an idiot lol, the 1080i function only works when i plug the hdmi cable into my 37" HDTV and to be honest it looks quite amazing,

The reason I installed x64 is that I find 32bit windows a bit slow, and why use a 32 bit operating system when it is a 64bit capable processor... Thats like buying a £3000 pc and using it for ebay. I'd rather use it to its full potential.

Also yes I will be upgrading the memory in the future, thing is I'm not 100% sure what RAM is actually inside, I just need to pop the panel off again and take a quick look.

    Thanks again folks
