I received a new Aspire 6935 yesterday.
As with any new notebook, I formatted the hard drive and installed the OS (Vista Ultimate, in this case) from my own disk.
I downloaded the drivers from Acer and installed those - and ran into a problem with the TV Tuner.
Acer makes drivers available for the Avermedia A310 card.
I installed the driver and, though the install process finished, it wasn't successful.
After installing all drivers, I opened "Device Manager".
It showed nothing for the A310, but listed the A309 drivers as missing.
I installed the A309 drivers (from the 7720G, I think), which worked.
My concern is that, as far as I was able to ascertain from much Googling, the Aspire 6935 only ships with the A310 model TV tuner.
Some other models can ship with either, depending on configuration.
Is this in fact the case, and Acer has been remiss in not posting the A309 driver on their support page - or am I sitting with the wrong card and/or a dodgy notebook?
I did phone Acer Support who were unhelpful and argumentative:
i) first they suggested that Vista was misreporting the device
I asked them why, if Vista was merely misreporting the device, why did the drivers work for it?
ii) then they suggested that this model can ship with either TV tuner
I asked them why they didn't post both sets of drivers on their support page, as with other models
I was then told that, as I didn'thave a problem, they couldn't provide a solution.
