Hi,
I bought a Aspire 7220g Laptop about three months ago and since then i've watched it slowly become more sluggish and horrible to use.
The problem seems to be (atleast to my un experienced eyes) something to do with heat. The fan's turn on and off erratically. I can't use the computer on Max Performance power settings as after several mins it becomes sluggish, sound begins to crackle, the fan gets really loud and if i'm playing anything or watching anything the FPS just drops.
I've been bypassing this problem by turning on the annoying Empowering Software and sliding the CPU speed sliders all the way to low. This prevents me from having the performance issues, but it greatly throttles what performance I do have. It is however stable when I do that.
Problem is I don't want to keep running on a low CPU speed as it kind of undermines the point of me getting a new laptop as my old desktop gave me more stable performance - even after 7 years!
Any advice or information anyone could give me would be appreciated. I'm getting annoyed at this thing and i'm starting to wish I didn't bother spending the money on it - since all i've had are problems after a month or so of smooth sailing.

Welcome to NBR.
Yeah, it does sound like a heat problem. Have you ever cleaned the laptop? The laptops need to be cleaned every 2-3 months and even more frequent if you have pets. Otherwise the fan and the heatsink grill get clogged with dust and the cooling is far from efficient. Cleaning is fundamental.
Another thing you can try is undervolting - check the undervolting guide.
A notebook cooler can get off 3-5ÂșC too.. -
Thanks,
Yeah i've given it a good clean - I will do so again just to make sure. And thanks for the Undervolting Guide, i'll have a read up and try it.
