Can I set up an external monitor (I am thinking of getting a 24" screen) with my Aspire 7520 with an attached USB keyboard & mouse and have the laptop lid closed? My initial test with my current 17" is that when the lid is closed the machine hibernates!

Change event on lid close in control panel > power management.

    hi

I have lid close event set to "no change", but when you close it, it keeps working as always, but it makes a sound like when you unplug an usb device or external monitor, and VGA output signal is lost, so my external LCD doesn't work.

please, any idea? I need to use my laptop with lid closed.
I have windows vista 32 home premium running on Aspire 5920.
    thanks in advance.

I also have the same problem except with s-video rather than vga. Rather annoying- I have my laptop sat on coffee table between me and tv, so obviously i wanna put the lid down when watching stuff.. but can't! Instead, the wordaround is to bend the lid the other way and press the LCD-off hotkey (thankyou Asus!), but even then I get a reflection off the screen.

I'm running vista ultimate sp1 32bit, and this annoyance was one of the first things i notice after upgrading from xp earlier this week. My notebook is an Asus F3Jp w/ Ati X1700 and lastest drivers/CCC.

I'm guessing this problem is intrinsic to vista, and there's not much chance of a fix from windows/ati anytime soon (although I live in hope!). But if there's anyone out there with a solution, please let me know!
