Ok, not real happy right now. I have had this laptop for just about a week and a half, and although last week it played "The Dark Knight" BluRay disc, it will not play any bluray at this point in time.
The Acer Arcade Deluxe program is apparently supposed to do that function, but it will not. I have updated the software for AAD a couple of times. I have tried reinstalling it, I have tried checking the driver for the multi-drive. All to no avail !
Right now the Device Manager calls the optical drive a CD-Rom. I do not know if it was a Windowes update that screwed things up, or what, but what is the point of buying a laptop with a blu-ray drive, when 10 days later it won't play a blu-ray disc ??

Sorry to hear that the BD-ROM drive isn't working.
Have you tried a System Restore back to when the drive was working?
How about using your Acer recovery DVDs to bring the system back to factory default to see if it works then?

Oh, and I changed the title of the thread to be more descriptive of the problem.

Sorry about the cross posting, just really peeved at this point. Although I have had laptops before this one, I am not real sure how to get this one to boot to the recovery disc I made just after buying this unit. Suggestions ?

What do you mean, getting it to boot to the recovery DVD?
You should just have to put the DVD into the drive, then restart. The boot order should be such that it reads from the DVD drive before the hard drive. If not, you'll need to go into the BIOS to fix that.

Have you tried a System Restore through Windows yet?

Maybe you've updated drivers since the last time you played BluRay- if I’m not mistaken all drivers have to be WHQL-signed ones- no unofficial or modified drivers. If you are using beta/preview ATI drivers or modified drivers- let them go and use official 10.3 WHQL, same goes for audio codec.

Good point, downloads, I almost forgot that.
Non-WHQL drivers will break Blu-ray playback regardless.

I don't know if it ever worked, this is my first time playing a blu-ray disc. It did and currently play regular DVD's! I haven't any recovery disc, they are on the notebook memory itself now.

I just want to say I am not a computer guru. I am an average PC user, but not completly computer illiterate. As of 03/20/11 the day I purchased my notebook, Acer did not offer or provide system disc, recovery discs or driver update disc. Acer is now putting this on the harddrive. I recovered mycomputer by going to the "Acer eRecovery Management, then went to "Restore", then chose "completely restore computer to factory defualts". I'm not wanting to come across as rude by any means BUT, it really bites that I don't have the application available on my harddrive system recovery data to run my blu-ray, customer support should have helped me in getting whatever data/files i needed, it doesn't appear that they (application files) were there to begin with. These system recovery files are unobtainable and can not be altered by the computers user. To rub it all in; they're going to charge me for something that is not my responsibility to fix! I just want it fixed and am wondering what my warranty is for - it's obviously been revised since I purchase the notebook (not even 30 day ago).
