simple question i hope... i just wanted to check

    My aspire is as per topic title a 7720 T7300 (2.0ghz ,800mhz FSB , 4mb L2 cache)

I am running a recent Bios flash so up to 1.43 spec.

Is a CPU upgrade to a T9300...simple just a case of processor pull and new CPU refit?

Will it be of benefit or worthwhile in the firstplace?

    As i can get a Intel®Core™2DuoMobile Processor T9300/2.5GHz/800MHz/6MB

    for about £100

    opinions and advice ?

Well, there are a few things to consider.
    1. This is a surprisingly tricky operation - you'll need to remove your system's back cover, fan, and heat sink, apply thermal compound to the CPU and re-apply it to the GPU (if you have an Nvidia graphics card), then put everything back in. If you're not a techie, I'd avoid it.
    2. Although you'll be moving to a cooler process and newer architecture, you may not see huge gains from a 500 MHz boost, nor from an extra 2MB of cache.
    3. There goes a point where the cost of upgrading outweighs the marginal gain from the extra MHz. Most cases you'll see here of upgrading come from the original CPU being either a single-core Celeron, or a slower FSB being bumped up to a faster one, such as my own. (I started on a T5550 at 1.83 GHz on 667 FSB)

    well written.. TehSuigi.

dual cores and higher FSB speeds are the best reason for upgrading....

while the upgrade shouldn't be to complicated, unless you really need the extra CPU speed for 3d rendering or something like that, i'm in agreemnet that in your case it's not worth the trouble
