first, i'd like to say hi, as i am new here.
anyways, as the title indicates, i have an aspire 7720 on the way.
    my questions are:
does this include restore dvd/cds or a restore partition?
if it comes with a partition, is it possible to make restore dvd/cds and delete the partition?
also, can anyone recommend a good 17+ inch laptop case?
    thanks,
    -randy

no disks come with MOST new ACER machines anymore

you can make the RECOVERY disks
but i'd recommend keeping the hidden recovery partition.... unless you are like me and just have to live on the wild side of technology...

check your BIOS when you get the laptop... i'm interested in knowing what version your laptop shipped with?

the GREEN Empowering tech.. icon in the upper right part of the screen

it has an icon that represents the ERecovery utility.... i think it's covered "briefly" in the users guide

    as for the 1.42 link
it's not a link... and you don't have enough posts for private messaging to work for you...

    post some more
and i may be able to send you info tonight?

i think VISTA has it's own partiton resizer included in the OS.....
what are you trying to accomplish w/ Part magic?

i would like to delete the recovery partition and expand my main partition onto it without losing data like partition magic used to let you do

the vista resizer won't let me touch the recovery partition... when i right click on it, the only option it gives me is "help" (it doesn't give me the options to delete, resize, etc)... so is there any way i can get around this or software to do it?

    how about DISK MANAGMENT???

in XP right click on MY COMPUTER,,, CLICK MANAGE... choose DISKMANAGMENT

that may let you delete it.... if that's even an option in VISTA...

    otherwise search for

    PARTITION MANAGMENT PROGRAMS
in my search bar below... or at google

BTW MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CREATED YOUR RECOVERY DISKS BEFORE DOING THIS

well, i didn't really understand that link :p fdisk on my windows98 CD worked tho, but for some reason, it won't let me merge that part of the harddrive with any other partition, as if it's a separate harddrive... weird

if you used FDISK to remove the HIDDEN partition...

don't recreate a new partition.... just leave the unused space as UNALLOCATED...

try using DISK MANAGMENT inside VISTA again now that you have unpartitioned... unallocated space...

    that might work??

i've not used VISTA in about 8 months

that's exactly what i did, but for some reason, the 10ish GB always stays separate, kind of like a separate harddrive.... definitely weird - something i've never experienced before...
i am able to put data onto the volume though, so maybe i'll just use it for music or something :p
