@kojack Check out the control panel for Synaptics - I remember seeing settings for scroll zone and for two finger scrolling. I don't remember which (if any) was enabled by default.
Unfortunately I can't check it myself as I did not like Win 10 at all and rolled it back to Win 7.

Cool, I have went through all the settings. I may bring it to the LCS and get them to do it. I am very busy trying to get my new business up and running and I just want the bugger to work. The only thing I don't like about w10, is edge. At the moment it's slow, and without any ad blockers. I opened interent exploerer and everything is good with the world again. I can type here and the letters on the screen keep up with my typing. and I can scroll right away. In edge, I have to wait for a million ads to open and then it gets just manageable. So, I removed edge as the browser and went to I.E.

I cannot get the scroll to work. Everything else is good to go. Back on topic a bit, ha ha, I don't think I ever got this question answered. My 7720 has on board video, Can the upgraded screen work with my notebook? I have to install my Bluetooth module, black keyboard and if the screen worked, I was going to buy one and install it to get the higher resolution.

    thanks.

    Starlight5,
Could you please modify the driver for my graphiccard too?

This are the IDs of the graphic adapter:
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_056710DE
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_056710DE&REV_A1

I tried to add the following lines to the devices.txt
    DEV_0649&SUBSYS_05671025 "NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT "
    DEV_0649&SUBSYS_056710DE "NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT "

And this lines to the ini file:
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0649.0567.1025% = Section012, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_05671025
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0649.0567.10DE% = Section012, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_056710DE

But if I start the setup, it tells me, that there is not the correct hardware found.

At the moment I can not play the simplest game, because the card is getting over 110°C hot and then the laptop shutdown.

Which Bios would you propose for the 7720g with this grahiccard?

    Thank you!

@BigT1 I modified the files for you, don't forget to remove .txt from second filename. This card shouldn't overheat. You need to reapply thermal paste, and maybe remove thermal pads if you have any, since they may be causing poor contact between GPU and heatsink. Regarding motherboard BIOS, just use the latest; vBIOS - I'd suggest using the one which came with it. You can try to undervolt it, though.

Is it possible to use 9600M GT with Windows 8.1/10 and 7720Z? I have no problem installing the latest nvidia drivers on Windows 7 but when I switch to one of those two I've mentioned, I can't get it working. After I replace .txt and .ini files, installation starts, the screen blinks and I get message: "NVIDIA Installer Failed". I've tried with couple diffrent drivers, no luck. I didn't have this problem with 8400M GS and Win10.

    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_056710DE&REV_A1

    Edit:
Also, how can I disable ACPI? My bios version is 1.45 Black Edition 4.0 .

Can anyone confirm that the NVIDIA GT 240M works in this laptop? i'm getting this laptop tomorrow, it comes with an 8600M GT but i want the best card in it wich i found is the GT 240M.

This is the one i'm going to buy: https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/Gefo...lgo_pvid=9d66f481-cb76-4558-93d8-35141c02d75c

Don't suppose the ATI HD 4650 works? it needs more power though so i guess i'd need a better power brick as well.

I have an brand new Aspire 7720zg, bought in France. Was with 8400m gs, the card died, i tested few ATI cards on it, an 8600gt m, 8600m gs, none work on this laptop.
Few days ago i found an 9600M GT 512 ddr3, v1.0 from an HP, its working.
Was on 1.27 mainboard bios, 30seconds( and beep sounds) appear at startup, update to 1.45 and fix it.
    Install win10, all are working.
Regarding gpu, i modded an driver, v342.01, http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/112600/en-us
    Card stay at 50-60C .
    [IMG] [IMG]
In picture is the inf modded procedure and picture with this videocard.
I put also an SSD OCZ 60gb on it, and 4gb ddr800 transcend( work at 533).
Maybe i will put an P8400 cpu and gave it to my nephew.

Ok, I got my touchpad working. The solution, if anyone else is wanting to fix this, is download drivers for aspire e-571 synaptics drivers and install. Worked perfect. I was not using this computer as much anymore because of not being able to scroll with my touch pad! All fixed again now. This ole tank of a laptop is a great device!

Well after using it for a bit, I noticed the computer is struggling with web browsing etc. I am wondering if I need to upgrade the processor and ram in it.

I would take a look at upgrading to an SSD first, if you haven't done so already. Then RAM and CPU, in that order.

I think the 9300 will suffice in this beast. the 9500 is twice as much for not much more speed. I will check back with some reporting after it gets installed! Been busy with work and the 7720 got shelved for the time being.

I bought 9600m gt VG.9PG0Y.005 from Acer; flash bios 7720g to cl50 1.45 black edition. Change cards. When power on - black screen, system not start, no bios signals, cooler works.
Dead vga? Or maybe vbios need to change?

Hi guys! Love to be here :)
Recently I got Acer Aspire 7720 as a gift and as it is a beautiful laptop it's terribly laggy... I decided for few upgrades.

    1) I ordered CPU T7700 as it is about 53% overall faster than previous and costed me just $4,99 with free shipping
    2) Crucial 120GB SSD

But does it make sense to upgrade RAM? Currently it's running on 3GB. What's the maximum that board can handle? Is it 4GB, 6GB?
Is there anything else worth upgrading? Overall it is in excellent shape, no scratches, screen flawless...

    Hi
Those days when everything is so memory hungry, upgrading RAM is always good idea.
Do You have 7720 or 7720g, because if it's first then It have most probably GL960 chipset which is limited to 3GB. If it's 7720g then it have probably PM965m chipset which should support 4GB.
But sometimes manufactures were putting full GM965 chipset instead of crippled GL960, so only way to be sure is checking the markings on the die of the northbridge itself.
On the top off that there are reports on the internet that full chipsets GM/PM965 somethimes in some laptops support more then 4GB, let's say 6GB. And even if would turns out that this laptop support more, there is a question: Is it wort it?, cause 4GB DDR2 sodims are very expensive. Like You see subject is quite complicated.

    Hi all :)

happy to post here, it has been a long time i post a message here !

Didn't know, but probably some people here have this problem too :

Yesterday i need to transfer some data on Samsung SDXC UHS-1 64 Go, but it seems with Ricoh SD reader, some problems appear
    i'm on Win10 RS3 :

    1) I can heard the sound scheme about a peripheral connection.
    2) Explorer wait and you can see "the green bar" progression
    3) The icon ans the letter appear....
    4) No Way........ Can't work and explorer Hang

Try to find the latest one , but same result, i precise mine was 6.10.1.5 before i decide to find a solution.

    i've found a package with number 2.15.17.02 (6.10.10.32 inside) here :

    https://www.touslesdrivers.com/index.php?v_page=23&v_code=32974

There's a rep "Driver" who contain all the driver needed by the Ricoh SD card controller.
Don't really matter if no mention about Win 10, it works.

But Same result with my 64 GB SDXC, i observe only the name and version has changed by :

    Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC Host Controller
    25/05/2011
    6.10.10.32

i search again and find this :

    www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=Ricoh+SD+Host+Controller

As you can see the latest seems to be the 6.10.1.5 :(

But i see the 6.21.11.46..... try to DL it and try it.....
Can't install it directly because WIn10 annoy me with Driver signature !!!

To solve this, i take ONLY the Two .sys (risdxc64&x86) for Ricoh SDXC and MERGE IT into the 6.10.10.32
But the 2 .sys version is 6.21.11.46, bigger than the 6.10.1.5 and 6.10.10.32

Install it. ok..... no more drv signature Fu..k'in prob.....
insert my SD..... YES IT WORKS :D

Fully working with SDXC UHS card , my peek transfer is about 6.7 MB/s

Ps: The .inf from 6.21.11.46 seems to be better, with more peripheral Inside,etc... but some investigation is necessary to resign and create a perfect driver.
could probably install it with a modded .inf with F7 boot mode, but i do this to be more easier to install for newbie.

I have the 7720 (non G) version and Mine supports 4 gb of ram. I think that was more of a windows thing and not a hardware thing. I have 4 gb in mine and it reads and uses 4gb. that is running windows 10. I think that 32bit windows vista (and maybe 7) was limited to 3gb of ram.

Mine, 7720G with ICL50 motherboard Rev 3.0 (yes, i'm Lucky), support only 4GB, if i put 8GB Inside, no problem, the bios see it correctly (blackedition 1.45).
In Windows, 8GB appears too, but only 4GB are usable.
As far as i could remember, it's a bug from the chipset.

    PS : Forget to precise i use Win10 (1803) 64bit Os.
ALL 32 bit OS limit for memory Adressing are 4GB MAX (2^32 = 4GB)

I know mine uses all 4gb. Like I said, 32bit windows had a 3gb limit. I don't know about having 8gb of ram in MY system. I know all four a being used now.

    Hi all!
This is my first post in this forum and I appreciate a lot the work and the support all the users are giving to the community: thanks, thanks, thanks!!!

I've got an almost brand new (only 10 years old) 7720G from my old aunt that had broken the power-on button and was complaining for its extremely poor performance. Fixed the button issue with some plastic and rubber, now it has apparently no other problems and the plastic shells are quite perfect.

I've upgraded it putting 2 SODIMM 2GB memories found in a drawer and replacing the old 250 GB HD with a 240GB Kingston SSD device bought @37€ on the amazon, together with a new battery (the previous one was really dead).
Installed Windows 10 and now I'm pretty happy for the general performance.
My only complaint is related to the WLan section, an Intel 3845abg that has a very weak signal and a very poor transfer (no more than 20Mbps full throttle, laptop very near the AP) compared with the performance of a wired connection, even @ 100Mbps.
I looked around for a replacement and i've found the Intel 4965bgn that should offer better characteristics with the same power consumption and that should be pin to pin compatible with the 3845 co-processor.
The problem is that 4965 device comes with 3 antennas instead of the 2 provided by 3845.
Before spending any more time and bucks, could someone assure me that:
    1. the Intel 4965bgn is recognised by the original bios 1.45 from Acer or shall I flash a modified version?
    2. could I use a spare Wifi antenna wire, passed around the laptop case without unassembly all the components?
    3. Should I use a modified bios, is it AA_7720G_CL50145A_NoEIST+Menus_ByCamiloml downloaded from bios-mods.com (/BIOS/index.php?dir=Insyde%2F) the right and last version?
I will use this laptop only for internet browsing, mail, netflix or prime video and playing bridge on-line, so no need to upgrade the video card or the CPU (well, maybe a T9500 @ 15US$ could worth of...)
    This is my configuration:
    • 7720G ICK70 with 8400Gs and T8100
    • BIOS Acer 1.45
    • 2x Elpida PC2-6400 (400 MHz) memory banks
    • Kingston AD400 240 GB SSD + WDC WD2500BEVS-22UST0 HD
    • Windows 10 build 17134.345
    Sorry for my awful english.
Many thanks in advance to all.

    Hi there

Wi-Fi card should work as long as you don't buy one that is meant for a specific vendor i.e. Lenovo. These cards are usually marked as such so as long as the listing is generic rather than specifies a notebook manufacturer, you should be fine.

The third antenna is not really necessary - the card is a two spatial stream one although if you want you can route a third antenna somewhere. It probably won't have the best reception anyway as you won't be able to get it into the screen assembly.

As for a modified BIOS - there is no real reason to flash one unless it offers something you specifically need, so I would not touch that.

Routing a wire on the case along the edge it's not an issue... and I should get anyway an improvement in WiFi signal reception.

That's OK. Don't fix it if it isn't broken... isn't it?

Thank you a lot for your reply.
Another question: I've got a spare Atheros AR5B95 from a scrapped HP Laptop.
I'm figuring if this adapter could be detected by the BIOS... Any suggestion other than physically checking it?
    TIA

Quite frankly I don't think you will see any improvement in reception either way but if you want to test three antennas, why not.

As for the HP card, it's hard to tell. HP at some point gave up on white-listing and cards with firmware specific to HP but I don't know if yours is old enough to still be from that white-listing era, or not. But since you already have it, the easiest thing is to check it.

Also I think AR5B95 is actually newer than Intel 4965bgn.

...well, while waiting for a reply, I decided to try and... et voilà, les jeux sont fait...
I've installed AR5B95 on this laptop, reboot, entered in the bios, save modifications (nothing changed!), boot and Windows installed flawlessy the drivers.
Just the time needed to input the network key, and I'm connected to my network infrastructure.
I upgraded drivers to last WHQL version available from ath-drivers.eu but I didn't find any improvement relative to the previous version.
    Only few comments:
    • Connection seems to be capped @65 Mbps instead of the expected 300 (or 150 too) beeing 2 mt far from the wifi router
    • File transfers no more limited to 22 Mbps (speedtest achieves up to 45 Mbps while sons are streaming with different devices...my connection is a 50Mbps VDSL)
    • Resuming from Hibernate restores network connection; before, with 3945ABG I needed to force a hardware reset of the device otherwise I was unable to connect anyway
    • Unfortunately, the AR5B95 card is a half-height card instead of the full-height format of 3945 so, missing the screw holes, I had to fix a small spacer on the upper face of the card in order to get the cover pushing down the card against the slot liners. I'll manage to find a neater solution...
I've another scrapped system a Fujitsu T5010 from which I could recover CPU T9600 and Intel 5200 Wireless Adaptor, but I'm afraid that neither the CPU nor the WiFi card will be compatible with 7720G.

    Stay tuned...

The most current drivers can be found here.
AR5B95 is a single stream card - something I didn't notice as I've had it confused with AR5B93 which is a two spatial stream card.
So the speed of 65mbps indicates that channel width on the router is set to 20MHz. If it can be forced to 40MHz the speed would go up to 135mbps.

As for the card being half-height there are adapters for that.

I don't remember Intel Wi-Fi 5200 - there were 5100 which wan't very good and 5300 which was. Both should work.

Yes, I've found on the Internet and I'm trying to manage the problem. Unfortunately my WiFi infrastructure (Fritz!Box 7590 and Fritz!Repeater 450E in Mesh arrangement) seems to limit the choice to only 20MHz channel in 2.4Ghz Channel mode. I'll check in other specific forums for this.
    Nice suggestion! Thank you!

I apologize for my error. The adapter effectiverly is an Intel 5300N ..guess it functions... I'll check if I'll find the system that it has been tidied up so well that... I don't find it nowhere... :(
Probably it worths to buy a used 6200N adapter @15€ including shipping, if supported..

Anything about the compatibility for T9600 CPU? I red something about that CPU that has a different FSB (1066 MHz vs 800 MHz) and I'm quite sure it isn't supported by the chipset (PM965).

Fritz!Box 7590 works on 5GHz band as well as on 2.4GHz and so does Intel 5300 so you should consider using Intel 5300 and switching to 5GHz band - that would solve a couple of problems - congestion and 20MHz channels at once.

As for T9600 it won't work.

I apologize to bother you with these repeated Q&A, but I've found a very expert guy... thank you!
You've clearly explained how Intel 5300 resolves my problems, Now the last - I hope - question:
as far as you know, which is the most advanced type of network adapter supported by 7720G?
I would like to evaluate if spending some tens of € to purchase an used but newer adapter is a valid alternative in order to get my system more usable and responsive ...

Unfortunately I was pretty sure of that... :(

    Thanks again.

@Tarkonte The most advanced would be Intel AC 7260 but you have to pay attention to two things - one is that you don't buy N 7260, the second one is that AC 7260 is available as both mini-pci express and M.2 and you need mini pci express one - like this one.

That card not only works on 5GHz band but also supports 802.11ac wave 1. I'm not sure that you will need that but that's your best bet.

@downloads No, probably it doesn't worth, unless I'll find it from other scrapped laptops at my company's mantainer at 0 cost.
Otherwise I will settle for Intel 5300...
    Tnx again

You can't cos PM965 chipset used in this laptop support only up to 667MHz RAM.

Update: I've just got a N6205 WiFi adapter.
According with Intel specs, it should be a 2x2 MiMo N300/AC adapter capable of up to 300 Mbps connect speed either in 2.4 and in 5 GHz bands.
I'm wondering if I could substitute present AR5B95 with this one and if it does worth...

You mentioned not to buy N 7260 but the item on the link you provided is actually N 7260. Can you clarify that?

@eatmydust There are two kinds of Intel 7260 one that is 802.11n and the other that is 802.11ac compatible.
The one I provided an Amazon link for is the AC one not N one so that's what I meant to do.

I would like to summarise what I have already read in this thread.

    Display: I have the 17" WXGA (1440 x 900) and I saw a member changed his screen to 17" WUXGA (1920 x 1200). Is it just plug n play?

BIOS: Acer has the 1.45 version. Is there a black edition 1.45 as well? What is the MXM edition? What is the VBIOS edition? I read that a member has a custom 4.0 Black edition version. Which is one is the best finally?

CPU: the maximum you can put is the T9500 @ 2.6GHz. Well, I have the T9300 @ 2.5GHz so it's fine. Is that right?

GPU: the maximum you can put is:
    • Toshiba NVIDIA GeForce GT 230M - what DDR? How many MB?
    • Asus NVIDIA GeForce GT 240M - what DDR? How many MB?
    • Toshiba NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M - what DDR? How many MB?
What's going on with the drivers of the cards above? Do I need to edit their INF files?

Personally, I have the 9600M GT 1024MB DDR2. What's the difference with 9600M GT 512MB DDR3? Is it better to change to 512MB DDR3 or to one of the above? if so, which one?

WLAN: I have the Intel PRO/Wireless 4965AGN which looks like it's incompatible with 8.1. While I'm working on my laptop, it restarts on its own. Any solution for that? Is that card's drivers fully compatible with Windows 10?

I also saw many members here changed their WLAN card. Why? I collected all of them as below. Which one is the best finally? What is going on with drivers?
    • Intel® Centrino Advanced N 6205
    • Intel® Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300
    • Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260
    • Atheros AR5B95
    • Ubiquiti SR71-15

    Bluetooth
: Also a few members have changed their bluetooth mode? I guess this has been done to update the protocol from 1.0 to 2.0, 2.1 or even 4.0?

Is the bluetooth module integrated to the WLAN card or is it separate?
I saw a member's signature mentioning the Broadcom BCM2046. Any link for buying it please?

I would be most grateful if anyone could reply to my questions one by one so that I get an overall view of what I am going to do.

    Many thanks in anticipation,
    Yannis

@eatmydust As for Wi-Fi cards - Intel Ac 7260 is the most recent you can get and unlike others it supports 802.11ac wi-fi. Driver updates are provided by Intel although not as frequently as you might have hoped (probably only security fixes at this point).

Intel 7260 also includes Bluetooth in board so that's got you covered as well (it's BT 4).

Yes and no. Yes - you can dirve WUXGA, since you already have 2ch LVDS, no - if you are looking at LED panels, since yours is CCFL. I can't recall a P/N of a premium WUXGA CCFL one. Sorry. If you aren't all about quality and colors, any WUXGA CCFL would do.

I really don't know which one is the best, what I do recall is one of the later ones fixes MXM structure and allows hassle-free upgrades (or it was all of them). As for vBIOS, the GPUs come with their own vBIOS (some GPUs have their vBIOS into the system BIOS, don't ask me why) so this vBIOS edition might integrate it onto the system BIOS to make ROMless GPUs (lacking on-board vBIOS) to run, but this is just a guess on my side.

Can't tell for certain, but most aftermarket nVIDIA upgrades require INF modding.

DDR3 gives you faster performance, while the 1GB DDR2 obviously gives more storage, which is kinda useless paired with this particular GPU. It was back in the day, even more so now, but this is my opinion. Of these two the GDDR3 version is better. In any case, the most powerful GPU you can probably run is a Toshiba GT 330m 1GB DDR3, this is the best MXM-II GPU ever made. Click here to check how a 6930G user made it running.

Yes and yes. One if not all of the BIOSes should support DualIDA, so you can get an extra 200MHz on top.

Thank you so much for your reply. I appreciate that.

In terms of the wireless card and the bluetooth module, the only thing I have to do is to remove my current wireless card(bluetooth attached to the Intel PRO/Wireless 4965AGN ???) and add Ubiquiti SR71-15 and the bluetooth module of the link you provided? If this is the case, is there space for both?
