Recently i've performed well known upgrade on my acer 7738G.
T6600->t9600
Gefore 240M - > firepro m4000 1gb ( dell one )
4gb->8gb
everything went flawlessly however...
Have the same issue as Ren0 no sound device present in device manager. Already tried modded bios but changing Azalia settings doesnt change anything.
Puting 240m back solves the problem but once i've tasted m4000 i'm not happy with going back to 240m.
Did u get it sorted out somehow?
I've read some of U have the same upgrade but never heard anything about sound issues.
Can any one help or suggest sth constructive? -
Guys, try to install default sdound drivers for your laptops from acer`s site and than enabling speakedrs in windows sound options.
-
I found some info about GPU's disabling onboard sound chip but switching on board audio setting in bios from AUTO to ALWAYS ENABLED solves the problem.
As we know there's no such option in our bioses - at least default ones
Moded bios, however, gives me this option but it doesn't work.
I'm looking at Acer 7735ZG motherboard. WIll that fit in 7738g? I might try to swap boards just to see if this problem occurs on other mo-bos -
What about trying other bioses for M4000? I mean one from HP and I think Foxonn one. About swapping motherboard. They do look like that same, apart maybe that 7738g have 3 phases power delivery for cpu and 7735g have only 2. But if they are that same they use probably that same bios as well then I don't see how this would help anyhow solve Your problem.

If U could tell me how safe ( or unsafe) it is to put HP vBIOS to my Dell m4000?

Ok, I wasn't patient enough and flashed HP Foxonn bios.
News are as follows:
- it was safe
- still no sound
Have anyone succesfully upgraded their 7738g with firepro M4000 and still have built in sound chip working?? -
Download maybe RWEverything and see if it read sound card registers.
-
Being honest I have no idea how to fix that. Never done that kind of stuff. At least You made some progress but what to do from here, I don't really know.
-
Ok, thanks for your help darnok.
The more I dig the more I'm confused cause Intel HD audio is not what I should get as an audio device in 7738g
It was Realtek device I was using so far and there is no sign of such a device even in RWeverything.
I think I'll give up on m4000. Its getting pointless.
I think Ill go for 6770m this time.
How it is compared do m4000? Faster , slower? equal? -
Very strange behaviour. Never seen this before in combination with M4000.
6770M is much slower than M4000. -
propolkin, You have never seen this kind of problem on 7738G along with m4000 or with m4000 in general.
Your signature says You have 5739G which is kind of a 15" version of 7738G? Am I right?
M4000 you own is a Dell' version?
Honestly , i've just finished playing Crysis 3 which I thought will never run on my laptop and I'm so so happy with the overall performance of my old machine that i've dropped the idea of buying new one!
i've already tried to put external sounblaster Play inside my Acer as there's plenty of room inside but but its not worth the hassle I think.
Couldnt get automatic switch-off of internal speakers when headphones plugged no mics working etc.
Now, I have firepro m5950 coming somewhere from China and hope it will solve my sound problem.
Is it really such a difference between m4000 and m5950 ( 6770 based )? I know 5950 is older and more power-hungry but it's core is 100Mhz faster while memmory only 100Mhz slower.
I do not perform any CAD - related operations so i won't benefit from firepro driver optimisations. Im only interested in pure 3D performance. -
I have M4000 from dell. I don`t know how it is correctly to be said that 5739G is 15' model of 7738G. I`ve not tested 6770M, but comparing synthetic test, M4000 is much faster.
-
Anyway, Will have HPs biosless version of m4000 next week for testing. Already integrated vbios into sBios and hope HP's card will be somehow different and won't block my onboard sound chip. I'm not much optimistic but as they say ,hope dies last

Got that Hp's romless m4000. It wasn't working with foxconn bios I've integrated previously into sbios so I've integrated the other one , ( IEC) and voilla , LCD lit up.
This is where success ends. After booting up windows - still no audio device.
Thats it. Final statement is that Firepro M4000 and 7738g don't get along with each other.
That's a shame and I will miss m4000 performance but... as soon as I get m5950 Im gonna swap GPU's -
Than I don`t understand why does other people were able to run it in 7738G.
-
Honestly? Maeker is the only one who mentioned about putting m4000 into 7738g. At least the only one I've came across while digging around for infos. Unfortunately I was not able to catch his attention on this thread.

M5950 has arrived. As expected - works and don't block "others" from working
Performance loss is noticable but not as much as I feared.
Must say it was quite troublesome to go trough that upgrade. As u have to dismantle whole laptop to swap GPU on 7738g and I've done that more than 20 times I'm finally happy to have it up and running with sound! and all screws tightened up
And ather all this If any1 provide me with sudden, unexpected solution how to make m4000 fully work with 7738g I'm gonnna....try it anyway
BTW. My CUrrent GPU came from China via DHL Express service - picked up from seller on 12.10.2016 delivered at my door ( Poland ) at 14-10-2016 by noon.
Thatis what u call an Express
