    Hi there,

I'm considering buying an Aspire 7440G. However, I'm must be able to use it for recording my guitar through a line6 toneport.

So here's the question: is the DPC latency of this model OK?
I'd really appreciate if someone could test it with the latency checker tool ( http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml) and post a few screenshots.

The reason for my paranoia is my current laptop, a Dell Studio 1735, which (ironically) can't be used at all for recording due to some BIOS problems, which Dell still hasn't fixed (Though they fixed it for 1737. Awesome).

    Thanks in advance,
    Jamie

    Hello and Welcome!

The DPC latency is NOT OK.
I've made several tests on my 7740G and the result is very bad. I'm using an external 0404 usb soundcard for sound recording, but I won't be able to work with sound editing on this computer with this f*cking high dpc latency.

I've located the problem to be on the drivers ACPI.sys and USBport.sys
And I've reported this problem to ACER for about 2 months ago, and yet no solution on their support website. No surprise that the USBport.sys are written bad but the ACPI.sys should be no1 prioritize to be fixed.

Lunar, have you heard anything back from Acer regarding this issue? I'm getting latency crackles running Traktor and Reaper, disabling the Microsoft ACPI -Compliant Control Method Battery driver and the wireless network adapter in Device Manager seems to help but I'm still hoping Acer will do something about this issue befor I pack it in and buy a Mac. The crackles are starting to drive me nuts.... I've played with all of the buffer settings for my Audio4DJ but still not getting perfect sound

Pack it or rather burn the shĭt up... and buy a Mac. Still having the same problems and Yes. I've got some very stupid answers from Acers supporters and they said for now, some months ago that they was working on it in the HQ but no fix yet.

I was in contact again with Acer about this issue and they suggested me all stupid things. But didn't say anything about the status from that trouble. I got tired of it all and made a conclusion to them that there is a big lack or should I say None competence in that company. Seems like it's some kind of hobby enthusiasts at Acer.

I'm not expecting a fix for this DPC issue anymore. I'll just continue using my old notebook (HP) for the music making, it works pretty much fine.
And for this ty Acer one... I dunno but maybe I'll just keep it for all the other stuff that I do or I burn the up or maybe just reclaim it
