I seem to have some driver problems with my brand new acer aspire 7740G.
I've got the model with i3 core in it.
The thing is that I absolutely can't run any games really...
I've tried both Bad company 2 and modern warfare 2.. And I have massive lag with everything on low. I know this can only be something with my drivers to do. Since this laptop is much better than my old LG. And my old LG could run both bad company 2 and modern warfare 2 with graphics around medium...
Anyone have the same problem?
Or know how I can locate the problem?
I've been looking around, and the only driver error my computer can find is intel turbo boost technology driver. But I think I read somewhere that I don't need it because it is only for the i7 core? Aswell as it comes up with an error with my audio but that shouldn't have any influence on the performance..
Also.. I tried running CPU-Z and it doesn't come up with any information at all on my memory(ram) and and shows the model name of my graphic card (HD 5470).. It doesn't show any clocks or anything at all....
Yes I've tried to download some of the drivers from acer's site but it obviously still don't want to work...
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Use GPU-Z for the card if you wanna know the freqs.
Update your drivers with the latest Catalyst 10.3a
And last but not least solve the audio problem whatever it is- audio problems tend to have a big impact on performance contrary to what you said.
It's probably Realtek integrated sound so use the current driver -
Still doesn't work.......
I tried to download and run Driver Detective..
It couldn't find my model 7740g, so it went with 7738g..
It says that Realtek high definition audio is outdated. But I've already downloaded the crap once.. And it should very well have been installed directly with the computer..
Atleast now my graphic card clocks and stuff shows up in cpu-z now. After a re-install. -
This laptop SHOULD be able to run these games shouldn't it?
My previous laptop which is a lg, is remarkable slower than this one, (that's what I'm starting to doubt now), but it could run modern warfare 2 and similar games with graphics around medium..
I can't even run modern warfare 2 with graphics on low........
I might go and let the store I bought it at have a look at it.. This really doesn't sound right.. -
Hard to tell not knowing anything more about the LG.
Run 3DMark06. You should score some 4000 in 1280x768
What's the resolution you play these games in? -
Max.. 1600x900 I believe

Mobility Radeon 5470 has 80 unified pipelines and is similar in performance to Mobility Radeon 4570 (a little faster due to higher core freq)
There are not too many benchmarks for 5470 apart from this CoD MW2 test in 1600x900 high settings- look at the FRAPS. Terrible performance.
And if you look at how HD 4570 performed (keeping in mind that 5740 is a bit better) you have 20fps for medium detail 1024x768 playback in CoD MW2 (with 2xAA though). Noteboookjournall concluded that HD4570 is capable of smooth gameplay in Bad Company 2 in low details only.
Another words this is not a gaming laptop with HD5470 and definitely not for 1600x900. Mobility Radeon 5650 (400 pipelines) manages 37fps in Bad Company 2 on medium settings in 1366x768 so you cannot expect an 80 pipeline card like HD5470 to play this game smooth not only in medium settings but also in 1600x900 -
Ah ok.. Guess that's my answer then..
Thanks alot for your help and time downloads -
Yet I wonder why it only have 80 pipelines? Then what is this graphic card good for? Movies?

No problem. I don't know if you can return the laptop or pay more for it but there is 7740G with HD5650 that would be at least 50% faster.
EDIT: Well it’s fine for occasional gaming, Sims 3 and things like that, plus it’s capable of HD video and Flash acceleration but it’s not really meant for serious gaming like Bad Company 2
