I have registered just to ask this question. I was at first going to purchase the 8920 for my laptop while I live in Switzerland (currently US based) and then learned of the 8930, and ordered this one off of newegg.

    Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115507

I saw a thread about an Aspire not coming with the TUBA subwoofer, and saw a video review of the 8920 saying it did have a subwoofer installed. Will the 8930 come with a Tuba aswell or will I expect to be bass-less upon its delivery

Currently Im running on my own custom computer which makes me giggle at the thought. ACER Aspire Power supply and Full tower chassis with an ASUS Media Center MOBO, with a BFG Geforce 8800GTS OC, WD 160GB SATA2 drive and 2gb of DD2 Ram

I am also wondering for those who have it, what the power limits for it is? I will be purchasing an adapter and surge protector, but I need to know if I will have to purchase a transformer for my laptop aswell

That thread was an oddity. All the 8930/20s should have the subwoofer.

The problem is this Acer Aspire 8930 (the 8930-6306 doesn't have the Blue-Ray drive or (I believe) the HD 1900x1200 screen.

Any word on when (or if) Newegg (or any other vendor here in the States) will actually be selling one of the higher-end Aspire 8930's w/the Blue-Ray drive and the HD 1900/1200 screen?

I'm doing my best to hold off on purchasing a replacement for my dead HP laptop until then...

The blue Ray drive is no very important to me. Im happy with regular ol' DVD, and once Blue Ray has become dominant in the market, I will have it sent to the factory to install a brand new, CHEAP Blue Ray Disc reader, as prices will have settled down as the market grows wider

I see there's a new Acer Aspire 8930 model showing up on the Newegg website - the 8930-6448. Question - does anyone know definitively whether this model has:

    1. The 1920x1080p resolution display screen? and

    2. The Blue-Ray playback drive?

I'm only interested in it if it indeed does have both. As the listed specs don't mention either, I suspect it doesn't have either - especially following the "display spec fiasco" over the numerous 8920 models...

But, it's worth asking to see if anyone here knows...

    Thanks,
    r-gordon-7

According to the specs displayed at Newegg for the 8930-6448 it should be a 1920x1080p resolution.

    Display
    Screen Size 18.4"
    Wide Screen Support Yes
    Display Type Wide UXGA

As i had the model physically, I looked at the DVD Drive, and it ships with a DvD Multi Layer reader. It isnt shipped with a blue ray, but I think if you wanted, you could speak to Acer, send it in and have it upgraded with a Blue Ray DVD Reader.

I just spoke to Newegg today, and had them issue an RMA as it fell under their 30 day return&replace policy as it was defective, and shipped it off an hour later. So I expect a brand new AND working laptop next week. YAY!

The Newegg model is the one I purchased and I remember the laptop had a FULL1080p Resolution sticker on it

The resolution on the 8930 is actually WUXGA+, extra wide UXGA.

I just cut and pasted the specification from the NewEgg webpage. Don't know whether it's right or not.

Exactly! But what they don't seem to understand is that a sizeable percentage of the market simply won't pay them (or any other vendor) ~$1,700 for an item when the status of some very basic specs is ambiguous or unspecified. Here's the essentially worthless response I got from Newegg after asking two very basic questions about the particular version of the Acer Aspire 8930 (the 8930-6488) they chose to sell... (I suppose I should be glad they answered at all, even if their answer is to tell me they don't know its maximum screen resolution or whether it has a Blue-Ray drive.) How can they expect to actually sell any if they can't answer even the most basic questions about it - ironically, one of which questions is the very question that was the cause of significant problems and customer dissatisfaction when there were "issues" in connection with the description of the maximum screen resolution of versions of the prior model
    (the 8920-xxxx)!??

Truly amazing! I'd be ready to buy if ony I could get a definitive positive response to these two basic spec. questions. Absent such an answer, I'll have to continue to wait/look elsewhere...

Not really. Newegg is an online retailer. They drop ship from various warehouses around the country. I doubt that "Ethan Meng" even works near one of the warehouses. He won't have access to any of the thousands of products that Newegg sells. If you want that kind of service, you need to go to a store and pay the extra price for the sales associate to lie to you.

Ummm...why is there no firewire port? I would think that it is standard on almost any system today. I was looking to get an 8930...but (for me) firewire is an absolute must.

I can comfirm it has no firewire. Lol, it has basically every other port.

The speakers are fantastic. I find myself lowering both the cinedash and the inbuilt sound controls on WMP to minimum as its to loud for casual use lol.
