Hi, this is my first post on this forum...

I am just wondering if my Acer Aspire 8930G has an integrated TV card or not... i believe its one of the lower-end 8930's

    The product number is: 54G32Bn
    here are the specs;
    Intel Centrino 2 T5800
    NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS (512MB)
    4GB DDR3 RAM
    320GB HDD
    inc. Blu-ray disc drive.
    5.1 surround sound.

On the right hand side of the Laptop there is a TV-in port next to the Kensington lock slot.

so can anyone help me?? i would like to know if this laptop has built in tv reciever?? thanks in advance,
    Nath

Have a look in your device manager and see if one is there.

There should be a slot where you could put one if you can find a place that sells the module. You'll likely have to mod the laptop too...

Are you sure that's a TV in port and not an OUT port?

    Its TV-in port.

i have looked in the manual and it is stated on the 'right hand view'

    Accepts input signals from analog/
    digital TV-tuner devices
    (only for certain models).

And this port is on my laptop

I have a 6935G the 16" ersion of your laptop.
    Mine has TV.
When i bought it it came with a little aerial that plugs into that port. "Signal up" is the what acer call it. There may be a convertor in the box to allow you to plug a std coaxial cable in there was in mine.

AS for running the tv use windows media center if you are already in windows.
if not boot into acer arcade

Mine has Signal-UP wrote on the lid of the laptop.
It did not come with any attatchments such as a ariel or adapter.
I would purchase one if i was sure it would work... it has a port for TV-In as i pointed out (number '7' on the image)

Did you find out whether you had a Tuner or not.

One way to see, go to windows media centre, go to the tv section and try and set it up. I don't have one on my laptop so comes up with the message No TV Tuner Found. If you've got one, i guess it would start the setup process.

I guess it has no Tuner inbuilt, even though it has the TVport on the righ hand side.
I ran the Windows Media cantre and tried to configure the tv, but no hardware or devices were detected.

Now i have established that there is no tv tuner..

could anyone recomend one for this laptop, i think i would prefer one inbuilt and that was able to use the port if possible, is there one designed for this laptop?

any other suggestions are welcome.. also if there are any pros and cons pleae say :D

thank you once again and i am looking forward to hear a response.

If you have the port on your laptop, you should have the hardware installed. If it isn't, you should contact acer to find out why. Can you post an actual picture of your laptop showing the port? Have you opened it up to verify you have the antenna cable available inside to plug into the tuner card? Do you have an internal slot available to plug a tuner card in? I think you should have the service guide available for your laptop before you attempt to do any upgrade beyond memory or hard drive just in case. I have not been able to find one for the 8930 models though.

You do not have the port installed in your laptop. That is just the area it would be installed in if it were an included option on your laptop.
