Hello everyone !
I installed a red pcb gts 250m to replace my old hd4670 in an 8935g. I previously tried a green pcb and it didn't work, so my hopes for this one were next to zero... but it turns out bios does recognize it and windows boots just fine. Problems begin after i install ANY modded inf drivers, and I've tried several of them... ONLY with drivers installed i start seeing artifacts all over the screen that look like this:
https://imgur.com/a/2cKlr
They don't appear in BIOS or in windows login screen. Another thing, if I turn the color depth to 16bits they completely disappear. I did stress test the card with Unigine Heaven and it ran fine for 30 minutes ~75 degrees on Ultra. I ran Furmark and other related software to scan for artifacts and even though they clearly appear on screen no benchmark-ing tool detects them... I should also mention that the artifacts are not static and that i disabled Direct3D and DirectDraw with a directX tool just to check if any of these are creating any issues... but the artifacts remained.. I did completely purge all previous drivers and i did also try Ubuntu which gave the same results..
If i start in switchable graphics mode, BIOS detects 1024 mb gpu memory but windows only boots with integrated intel graphics. If i chose to boot only with dedicated gpu bios only sees 20 mb available gpu ram.. but games run fine on windows with ~1gb+ ram usage.. except for the artifacts of course

So... since artifacts only appear with drivers installed i'm starting to think that maybe it's a driver issue.. but because Ubuntu too showed artifacts i'm starting to think it's a switchable graphics BIOS issue.. Vendor swears the card worked just fine before it was sent with print screens as proof.. Any ideas/suggestions ? Should i bake the card or is it a compatibility issue ? Can i somehow mod the bios/drivers for it to work ?
Much appreciated.

What driver version are you using?

I tried a lot of em'.. first time i used the 8940g vga driver because it's acer and it comes with the 250m stock.. basically just had to change the subsys_id's in the ini file.. Then the vendor gave me his files.. didn't have to modify them.. but still the same problem..then i tried multiple ones from laptopvideo2go... but still no go :/

something fishy is happening with this GPU.... it just changed hardware id over night with no outside input from me...
Hardware ID: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0CA8&SUBSYS_019F1025&REV_A2
and now it's showing up as a 260M.... Last night it was 0ca9 with subsys 019E now it's with 019F abd 0CA8...
And it's refusing to boot with dedicated gpu. I can see the id's with hardware monitor and nvflash.
This is sooooo weirdLast edited: Mar 15, 2018 -
Ok so i managed to make the old 250m work... only on an external display.. because it refuses to boot the laptops backlight. Any way to fix this ? integrated intel gpu works fine with native display..
