I'd like to upgrade the gpu on my 9300.
Does anyone know if this is possible and if so, what are my new gpu options please?
My 9300 is stock, apart from 4GB RAM and is running Win Vista Home Premium.
Many thanks in advance.

Check the MXM thread. Machines with integrated graphics only can never be upgraded.

Will have a read, thanks

Unusual to see a 9300 mentioned on here, and I have a 9301 running Vista.
I'm curious as to what video driver you are using as Acer never updated the one on the site since Vista launced, Windows update installs 7-15-11-6369 for GEForce 6100 and although better it still gives the very well known and documented "NVLDDMKM video driver stopped responding" etc message occasionally.
Following Tehsuigi's advice I installed 179-44 available from laptopvideotogo with a modified .inf file and its proving goodDead easy to do as well.

My 9301 has been absolutely ace and at nearly 5 years old is still (touch wood) going strong. -
From Device Manager: v. 7.15.10.9755
That is the very error I get at least once a week.
Thanks for the link, I'll take a look.

Ok, have just installed an upgrade from that site.
v 7.15.11.8070
Fingers crossed.
Many thanks -
The 9755 one is the original.
Hope the update proves successful anyway, certainly no problems to note with 179.44 -
It certainly seems ok at the moment. No problems at all yet although that could be down to my new cooling success. I'll monitor it and see how it goes.
I did find that site a few weeks ago from the nVidia forums and even downloaded the files but wasn't sure about going ahead. Your post gave me the encouragement I needed, lol.
Thank you. -
Speccy ? As Acronis is my favourite program
I just downloaded Speccy for interest. I try and keep my OS as clean as possible and never use any 3rd party tools, reg cleaners etc... seems to work too.
Anyway,
CPU averages around 52c
GPU around 69C but goes to 75C when displaying,
FishIE Tank
with 50 fish selected.
HDD around 35C
MB at 46C
All at ambient room temp of 23C.
The laptops2go site has been revamped and much better to use... until recently I wasn't sure how to force a driver onto the system using the .inf files but the step by step guide proved easy to understand. -

We just sorted him out with a nice shiny TL-60 to go in there.
One that can do 2ghz @ 0.9v -
Thanks for that. I quite like Speccy - quick and easy yet thorough.
The system is running much better now after removing that suspicious patch and removing a couple of intake grill pieces.
I'm sure you saw my post. -

Yeah I punched through some holes they had the outlines for.
My max load temp dropped from 85C to 70C with the HD5730. They make running the 5850 possible.
Silly acer. -
Just wandering off a bit now but related to resources and fan running etc.
Post #2 here and the attached piccy,

OK, similar sounding performance to what I was getting prior to putting 4GB in it 6 months ago. Now runs very well except I need to upgrade my HDD and of course the (now fixed) temperature issues.

This system is not going to be a gaming monster but its going to be a great multimedia/browsing machine.

Well, in truth, mine already is, but I do admit to being greedy

Once you go dual core, you'll never go back.

Just an off "topic update" on this... maybe totally unrelated to the NVidia GPU driver update (but I don't believe in coincidences
) is that when on battery, and in Vistas power options settings I have the wireless set to any of the powersaving settings other than "max performance" then the wireless light regularly flashes. On for say 95% of time, off for 5% and flashing every 10 seconds or so.
Connectivity is unaffected and even on max power save there is no change in down load speeds.
Only change to the system... the NVidia driver. Switch to high performance and the flashing stops.
