    Hi guys

Some surfing around through google results and i ended up on these forums, looks like some pretty clever people here so i'll post my problem(s) - and hopefully get them resolved! ;)

    Background:
I'm fairly technical and have been fixing PC's most my life (I'm 28) and actually work as an engineer. Most of my work is now network and support based rather than O/S level and the number of Vista machines i've worked on is very few.

This is 1 of my friends laptops, shes a generally good user and doesn't seem prone to catching 'nasty' things, i sorted a problem out on this laptop a year or two ago but my memory totally escapes me as to what it was?! Can't remember it being very tricky or complicated, but it was the first Vista machine i'd seen!

She asked me to have a look at it a couple of days ago and when i first saw it, it was stuck in a reboot loop when trying to install 3 windows updates... It wouldn't even load windows so you couldn't log into it - i fixed this by eventually getting into safe mode and turning off automatic-updates. The machine now loads ok into normal mode. My friend does not have any of her recovery cd's and the fact she bought it from a highstreet store (can we name names? ;) ) makes me think she probably didn't have any.

Although the laptop is now running i want to install service pack 1 and create some restore cd's/dvd's for her.

    First problem: Backups

The Acer eRecovery (used for creating backups) cannot make a backup image as there is not enough available free space (its looking on D: - a data partition, but theres not enough on C: either) its looking for 24gig! (seems like alot, but its got quite a bit of stuff on it!)
Is there a way i can get the Acer backup software to burn directly to some dvd's and just span the image across them? Or does it have to make a local backup first?

    Second problem: Service pack 1

The service pack install (i've downloaded the redistributable) seems to start the install but at around 60% it fails saying:
"An internal error occurred while installing the service pack.
    Error code: 0x80070002. See
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=101139 for details."

I've gone through whats mentioned on the microsoft site (the 'Readiness' tool was useless) and i'm still no further forward.

My next step was to do a repair install of Vista but without any other option than a full wipe+restore from the recovery screen and no Vista cdrom i'm stuck!

Help! Lol well thanks in advance! :)
