    Aspire 9301 RAM upgrade problems?

    Hi guys, just new to this forum and i'm looking for a little advice.
    i've just tried to upgrade the RAM in my Aspire 9301AWSMi from 2x512mb PC2 4200 533-to-2x1gb also 53MHz. The machine appeared to keep on stalling and wouldn't start up, but as I took out one of the 1gb sticks the machine loaded up as normal. I've tried both new memory sticks, both work, but only with one in at a time, nor does the machine allow 1x 512mb and 1x 1gb. Seams peculiar to me. Any possible suggestions as to why it's only allowing a max of 1gb at a time?
