I am not very good on computers so I need help. I just bought my wife a new aspire 9410. It is running xp.
The brightnees keeps going to the lowest setting. I tried changing it manually but it stays set for for about two seconds then reverts to 0%. I have tried changing profiles but even whenI selct a power profile with 100% brightness it won't stay set and reverts to 0%. I am operating on adapter not battery. I set battery setting to max brightness , unplug the adapter and brightness goes up for about 2 seconds then reverts. Plug the adapter back in the brightness goes up for about 2 seconds then reverts.
    What am I doing wrong?

You are not doing anything wrong everything sounds right, although I never use the acer utilities as they are nothing but redundant software. :(

If you feel you have done all you can do with acer epower management settings then the next thing to consider, is your display adapter driver up-to-date and if that is not the issue then we have to talk about Bios. I suspect it maybe a bios issue from what you have described but I could be wrong, it may just be a faulty LCD inverter (hardware) which then Acer will have to fix under your warranty, you could also try contacting acer to see if there tech support can help you as well. If you cannot track down the issue the notebook is new (under warranty) I would suggest taking it back you may have a lemon.

Check the acer euro site and check your drivers and Bios(the latest bios came out 3 weeks ago)...
