    Hi:

I am currently shopping for a new laptop. The Compaq Presario 700 has got to go!

I was in Radioshack, or whatever they are now calling it, the other day and they had a couple ACERs.

    1. I haven't really heard about this brand. Does anyone have any general advice on them? My friend just got one and I liked the look and feel of it...any problems that come up consistently with this brand?

    2. The store had two models. The specs on the ACER Aspire AS 1689 WLM1 are an Intel Pentium M processor, 512MB, 80GB, for $1399.99 (CDN). The ACER Aspire 1414WLC1-XPH, Intel Celeron Processor, 512MB, 40GB, is running at $999. It looks like with the WLM1 you can burn DVDs and can't with the latter, but that is really not that important to me.

Is it worth the extra $400 for the WLM1? My laptop needs are pretty basic...I just use Microsoft office (mostly word), save some pictures, occasionally play music from the internet, use the internet (obviously). I am not into playing games, and I don't watch DVDs on it. It needs to be portable, but I don't carry it around everywhere with me, so a standard size computer is fine. I just want one that is not going to constantly break down on me.

Would this be a good value computer for my needs? I am also looking at a Toshiba Satellite at Staples that is a bit more expensive.

Any advice would be greaty appreciated!!!!

    Thanks,
    Heather

Don't buy the celeron, get the centrino. It's worth every penny.
