    Hi,

Ive had my Acer 5920G for 2 weeks now and have noticed the fan(s) never come on. The laptop runs very quietly even under load. I have the e-power settings set to Performance too.

THe CPU cores idle at 50C and the nVidia Geforce 8600m GS idles at 62C and 75C under load. I think these idle values are too high.

Is there a way I can increase the fan speed?

there is no way to change acer fan settings they are hard coded into the BIOS and NOTHING we have tried has worked in trying to control the fans.

50c is the speed at which your fan should start up, and it should run until the CPU temps are 45c

as for your GPU temps, i've never owned a laptop with a discreete GPU so i don't have much knowledge in this area,,, but from what i've read on the boards those temps for the GPU seem very good... (i've read of GPUs reaching 87c and higher under load)

now your CPU temp of 50c at idle is a bit high... how long have you had the PC? and what CPU does it have in it??
don't sweat the CPU temps being a bit higher than most.... intel rates the CPU to operate at temps upto 100c for extended periods. you could consider removing the heatsink and replacing the factory THERMAL PASTE with something more efficient like ARCTIC SILVER 5. that may lower the temperature of the CPU by up to 5c immediatly, and after 20 or 30 times of heating (by just powering up the laptop) and the allowing it to cool fully to room temps along with time (about 3 weeks).... when the AS5 is fully cured you will notice the CPU temps have droped a few more degrees often as much as another 5c below what the temp was right after the AS5 install.

i just re-used the paste acer installs from the factory when i upgraded my CPU and even with that nasty, cheap crap.... my temps are currently 30c&33c on each core... but the HDD stays around 40 unless doing a virus scan then it can hit 50c

hope this rambling post helps you or someone

    Hi

I have exactly the same problem. I'm using everest and it shows various temps - so I have core1 and core2 around 44C GPU around 50C (idle) and then there is CPU - around 50C - what cpu is that - since I have core1 and 2 already listed. Is it main cpu or noth bridge? I though if I remove some dust from the radiator, the temps will go back to normal. That always worked with my previous laptop. No luck though. I would try to apply that thermal paste but I am a little worried I could brake something. So If anyone had done this before (applied thermal paste for 5920) could You give us more details (pics or vid) how should it be done properly. And would it be safe not to do anything to improve temps for longer period of time? Would it shorten cpu's life (if yes - how much?). Many thanks in advance

and one more question regarding 5920g - what purpose does, what looks like sim card slot inside the batery bay, serve?

that SIMCARD slot could be for a SIM CARD... some laptops have WIDE AREA WIFI built in them.. and as i recall the location for the simcard is in the battery bay!!

Thanks bigozone, what about this CPU thing - is it main CPU if yes then why core 1 and 2 temps are much lower than the one listed for CPU? Oh and I've found some clips showing how to apply thermal paste though I don't want to do this as long as it is safe to live it like it is now. So is it safe? I have up to 70C for this CPU when gaming. Core 1 and 2 are around 10C less. Again thanks in advance :)

70c while gaming sounds about normal to me....

if you are leary of doing the CPU thermal grease/paste upgrade, you should be fine... but i recommend you keep an eye on those temps... and keep the fan and air intake slots on the bottom of the PC cleaned out regualrly

i've never used a notebook cooler, so my oppinion is mute... but you need to get over your fear of opening the bottom of the laptop...

from what i've read about most laptops, keeping the air-vents and the fan free of obstructions is key to keeping a laptop cool and in good working order...

i'm not talking about removing any parts.... just removing the cover from the bottom that allows access to the RAM BAY,,, opening that will give you a decent idea of your laptop's need for internal cleaning

I've got similar problem. When I'm gaming, after 15 mins my character in FPS is going slow-normal-slow-normal........ 1 sec slow and 1 normal...... This is happening six months since I've have laptop 5920G. So what it could be? GPU, CPU, paste, dust....? Thanks!
