Has anyone here purchased the Aspire One 8 GB XP version? I have read lots of bad performance experiences from people who have installed XP onto their SSD Aspire One but have not heard from those who have purchased it with XP factory installed.
Is the performance any good?
Thanks.

I was working with one that a customer brought in (the pre-installed XP version, just a few hours out of the box), and the performance SUCKED.
Slow, laggy, and not fun to try and work with. -
Thanks for the insight. Based on everything I am reading on the net, I think I'll probably go with the HD version if I get it.
Any feedback on the Aspire One's heat and temperature? Does it run particularly warm (or average)?
Thanks. -
The right side (I'm assuming where the fan output is; didn't review it close enough) got particularly hot, as did the underside of the unit.
It was very unpleasant to work with, to tell you the truth. I guess I'm spoiled with my ThinkPad's cooling system. -
Thanks for the feedback. In the end, I bought the Aspire One with a 160 GB HD. I'm really enjoying this as a second laptop. I too have a Thinkpad (T61) and while this won't be replacing that computer for hardcore stuff, as a convenient mobile around the home and for travel, this seems pretty good.
You are right that cooling on this puppy is not as good as the Thinkpad but it compares favourably with other laptop's I've used. -
FYI: Dismal, even abysmal customer service -
get youself hard disk based one way nicer
battery life is pretty good on to i got one with extend battery it at least 4 hours normaly one i say abbout 2 to 3 -
I'm buying one too. Most likely the (SATA) HDD one.
Has anyone tried a 2GB module in it ? (Does it at least boot with 2.5GB ?)
And can the Atom be undervolted ? (It does support EIST, but is it recognized by RMClock, etc ?) -
No, it cannot be undervolted, RMClock doesn't support it, and it can't be adjusted by SetFSB as well.
There is software called a1ctl which can lock the speed to 800mhz, adjust fan-on/run speeds somewhat, and do the virtual resize to 1024x768. -
Oh, I see. Thx for the info. Tried CrystalCPUID as well ? Thats got voltage control as well.
-
they also aspire one fan control util too for it out they but undervolt as goodball say can,nt be done
and it won,nt post with that much ram max is 1.5 winch not bad it run vista okay
i can even recall mine sata are the aspire one 150 sata or ata i did, nt look when ugpade ram
winch you have take apart alot laptop be very carefull also it not support upgrade so if you break laptop doing tought luck -
Alright, thanks for the info.

it's an SATA drive if you have the HDD model. It's a PATA with ZIF cable if you have the SSD model.
AA1FanControl also will work to control the fan but like a1ctl, you can really only control the fan slightly (reacting to temps), you cannot set hard percentages or what not regardless of temp.
