I have an Aspire One 6cell, and have had a terrible experience with it. Let me start by giving you what happened until now...
On January 12, I purchased an Aspire One here in Belgium. It's a model with a 6cell battery, QWERTY keyboard.
The next day when I'm charging it, the LED indicator, which was red, indicating that the system was still charging, all of a sudden, turned off. The laptop, was on on that moment was on and Windows noticed that the system went on battery power. However, I hadn't touched the cables or anything, it just stopped charging. After 15-30 minutes, it started charging again. It seemed something had to discharge or so before it went on.
I tested in another plug. Nothing. I removed the battery and tried switching it on: again nothing (which made me think it had nothing to do with the battery).
I called the shop and they said it had to return to Acer, which could take up to 4 weeks. I was a bit dissapointed by that, so I called Acer instead. They told that it was a known problem on the motherboard, they would come pickup the system and I would have it back a few days later.
So they came, about a week later, they returned it. On the warranty note, it said: no problem found, bios updated. I retested the system, after a day, it did it again. So I called Acer again. They would come again to pick up the machine.
Again, a week or so later, it returned, only to find that again, they didn't fix the problem. On top of that, the cover of the laptop was severly scratched. I called them again, they would fix it this time for sure.
Again, it came back. It worked fine for about 2 weeks... Then, the same problem came back: while charging, it stopped charging. I was completely stunned, so I went back to the store where I bought it. They would take care of it.
This week, I received it again. They replaced the motherboard, which hopefully fixed the problem (I haven't tested it very thorough though). However, again, the cover is damaged.
Acer must have the worst quality assurance in the world I guess. How else can you send out a system that I have over a period of 4 months, used for 2 weeks, completely damaged?
What do you think are my options? Isn't Acer obliged to give me a new system at this point? I have bought it 4 months ago, but used it for about 2 weeks. By now, it costs 100 less than in January.
Also, any idea what might be causing the problem?
Thanks in advance for reading!

It could also possibly be a problem with your adapter. I believe you should ask for a replacement system if the same thing happens again though.
-
I personally doubt that it is the adapter: when it happens, I remove the battery and plug it in, it doesn't get any power at all.
You think I should ask for a permanent replacement? -
I know this sounds obvious... but what about the 110 vs. 220 voltage issues from where you are using it to where it is going. Are there any changes there?
-
I bought it here in Belgium (220V) and all the problems have been happening right here also. Haven't used it on other voltages yet.

I am in this forums about a year .... I join mostly because i got an ACER laptop.
By monitoring the forum life , all this months , I found out that ACER laptops are generally good.
And the called Services, as tech support , they are in a good level too.
In simple words , the company does not worth to get slammed so easily.
The Aspire One does not look to be a lemon ..
The modern laptops PSU supports both 110 & 220 .
I would suggest to test your laptop , so to confirm that the technical issue resolved for good , and as about the damaged cover , i wish to see a picture of that damage ...
Call it curiosity . -
I am testing it now, but if it fails again, it will be demanding a new model. In the meantime, I have been getting more info on this. European law obliges after 3 repairs that the supplier has to replace the machine.
This was my first and will also be my last Acer. -
ACER in Greece , clearly indicates that about Aspire One , only repairs are accepted as support solution ... In no case they offer replacement .
And this policy comes from acer-euro.com .
So if you get one , its like to accept this policy too .
I am not selecting sides , I just present the facts .
Aspire One: 5 times repaired, still not working :(
