My power adapter went bad on my Aspire 3003LCI. The power adapter has the following specs.
Input: AC100-240V
Output: DC19V 3.42A
Power: 65W
I purchased a Targus APA10US universal power adapter. Its specs are as follows.
Input: AC100-230V
Output: 15-24V -2A
Power: 65W Max
My Aspire calls for a #14 tip, but that one did not come with the adapter. Can I use another Targus adapter (#3) with a different tip without doing damage to the PC? I have been told that the tip does some type of voltage regulation and adjusts to the settings of the PC.

I somehow doubt the tip would make a difference at it's just a way to safely connect the ground and live wire the power board so if the tip can safely fit in there should be no problem as long as you can switch the voltage to the correct amount. However that perticular adapter will more than likely not work as it only supplies 2 amps and your original needs 3.42.

Can I do any damage to my PC if the adapter only supplies 2 amps when the original adapter calls for 3.42? I also noticed that the adapter supplies 65 W of continuous power and 80 W of peak power. The original adapter reads 65 W. Should the wattage be OK?

You see, you purchased a universal adaptor from Targus (hence the ability to set the output voltage).
So, the adaptor you purchased can deliver a continious power of 65 W.
Using Ohms law of, here are the currents that that the new adaptor can handle:
@15V ..4.33A
@16V.. 4.06A
@17V.. 3.82A
@18V.. 3.61A
@19V.. 3.42A.......The voltage you need at the required current.
You are good to go. Targus sold the correct replacement.
No problem

Thanks TeeJay. As long as the adapter regulates the current, I am OK. Targus scared me into telling me that the interchangeable tip regulates the current. Maybe they were trying to make $15 on selling me another tip?

Thanks for bothering to read the advice.
And thanking the person that gave it. Newbies normally don't bother.

PS: The person at Targus that told you that the tip regulates the current is speaking out his/her bum.
