how about unplugging and resetting your modem instead. it could be system maintenance is ongoing with your wireless provider. that thing usually happens one in a while. your computer's wireless device should not scramble your internet at all unless it's a microwave or EMP device.

Just got this lappy from Amazon yesterday V7-482PG-6629 and been playing with it all day. So far so good, the color looks exactly like my former m11x R1 Lunar Shadow where it looks dark silvery greyish color.
It feels the same weight as the W230ST Clevo around 4.5-4.7lbs but thinner, has a cool metal feel on the palm rest and lid, while the bottom part has a rubbery finish. Is it just me or this one feels like a premium machine for under $900 bucks, I was surprise how solid and well built it feels, I had the Alienware m14x R2, the new AW14, W230st, Razer 14, Asus N550JV, MSI GE40, and Ideapad Y410p and this Acer feels really premium close to AW14 and Razer14 and I can't believe it, you have to actually see and touch it in person for you to understand.
I recently owned and played the popular 11.6" $400 machine Acer V5-122p chill silver and this V7-482PG-6629 14" feels like a bigger baby brother version of it and it kept the same features that the 11incher had like the backlit keyboard and IPS Display. The reason I returned the V5-122p was because of the sluggish quad cpu. Now this V7-482PG-6629 has great specs for the money like a ulv i5 haswell, a ddr3 gt 750m, a dual band Centrino 7260 w/ Bluetooth 4.0, 500gbhd/24gbssd cache and 8gb of ram. One of the main reasons why I considered purchasing this lappy is the FHD panel that happens to be IPS and touchscreen as an added bonus.
Nevermind the touchscreen, the FHD IPS panel alone makes it worth the money under $900 and from playing around with it since yesterday, I can tell that this one has very high color gamut and deep blacks with great contrast ratio, almost similar to the Clevo W230ST that I had, I also had the AW14 IPS panel but that thing was too dim even at max brightness and it suffered from sparkly/grainy smudgy effect. Great news here if you're worried about those PLS/IPS panels matte or glossy that shows smudgy/sparkly effect specially on white backgrounds, the V7-482PG-6629 doesn't have it and it is clear like the IPS display on the W230ST.
Anyway, this is not really a review, but a quick impulse written opinion from myself in playing with it so far. I haven't tested normal balanced mode battery life or gaming yet especially with the temperature, noise or throttling but ill get to that maybe tomorrow or after the 25th. So far so good and the only thing I don't like so far is the touchpad, for some reason it is not as snappy or responsive like it has some kind of delay like when you are using a wireless mouse kind of delay, good news is that the touchpad is accurate and does not skip and it goes wherever my finger tells it to go, it's just not as fluid or snappy like my favorite touchpads from Alienware laptops. I also hate the left and right click since it so damn clunky and loud but luckily, the elantech software included the two finger tap right click menuand as an added bonus, the Touchscreen so this touchpad is not so much a PITA now lol.
Another thing I forgot to mention is the keyboard, if you have seen my reviews or questions in the past from my previous post then you would know that I hate keyboard ghosting and keyboard flexing.. Well guess what, this one does not have 3combination keyboard ghosting especially in the WSAD paired with the spacebar/Q/E/F. There was a video posted here regarding keyboard flexing on the V7-482PG but that's because the guy pressing it was doing it in full force by really pushing down on it, well guess what, in normal typing, it has absolutely no flex at all. Another thing I noticed on the keyboard, it has some kind of rubbery feel to it and the backlit setting is only on and off via FN+F9 key which is just right, not too dim or too bright.
Some other things I'd like to mention, the system when surfing is whisper quiet, I dunno if guys know but this thing has dual cooling fans and I can barely hear them when surfing but i'll find out soon when gaming how loud they would go. There are no hissing/interference sound when earphones/headphones are inserted so that's a plus, there is no cpu/gpu buzzing/hissing/high pitching whine or sound or whatever you guys call it, the only thing you hear if you put your ears near the keyboard area is the hdd and the low whooshing sound of the fans. The PSU also does not emit any buzzing noise whatsoever.
Now let's talk about the screen, like I mentioned at the top of this impulse written mini opinion review, this panel is an AUO B140HAN01.1 AKA AU Optronics AUO113D, same model panel that comes with the new Alienware 14 laptop, it is IPS/PLS/AHVA meaning, it has wide viewing angles and almost 90%+ at any angle w/o shifting, the colors are very vivid, the blacks are real dark dark blacks, and the contrast and brightness are great. The one thing I don't understand is the panel on the AW14, when I had it, the display was so grainy/sparkly like a smudge of dirt was smeared on it and I have a feeling it's not the model or panel or the anti-glare/matte that made it grainy, I think it's how the laptop assemblers put it together and how they put it together that made it grainy. Do you want to know why that is and why I think that's the reason? I had the Clevo W230ST, it is IPS/Matte, I also had the Asus N550JV IPS/Matte, both laptops have IPS and Anti-Glare and both have perfect clear panels with no grainy/sparkly effect. Then I have this Acer V7-482PG which has the same model panel like the AW14, but this thing is clear too and not grainy or smudgy. You might say that it's the glossy finish that made the graininess/spark effect disappear, I will tell you no because I had a Samsung Attiv PLS/IPS FHD Glossy touchscreen display earlier this year and that thing was glossy as a mirror but at the same time it was grainy/sparkly as hell.
So the point i'm trying to say, don't blame the graininess/sparkly/smudgy look on matte/anti-glare, my honest opinion is that it should be blame on who puts it together specially the one that attaches the covering whether it is the anti-glare film or the glass on top of it.
Anyway i'm done here for now, like I said, I can't give out my review or honest opinion regarding the battery life or gaming performance yet but will do in the future.
BTW, does anyone here know if this lappy has a color temperature setting somewhere? Maybe an Acer software/app since i'm not use to Acer laptops, for example Asus, they have that splendid video app setting to adjust color temperature to cooler or warmer or bluer or yellower etc... I'm not talking about calibrating or adjusting settings via the Intel HD Graphics.

@Benchmade 42
If you do any 1080p gaming tests let me know. Thinking of returning my ideapad y410p because it has a crappy screen tearing/vsync fix with the 755m even though it is pretty fast in general -
@Benchmade 42
the V5 you returned is an AMD quad APU if I'm not mistaken. it is similar to the cpu that are used on tablets. that is why it is sluggish despite being a quadcore. they don't reach 2ghz speed. anyway, I'm just curious on why you still bought the Acer if you have the Clevo and Asus already?
with regards to the color temp setting, it can only be adjusted via intel HD graphics in the color profile which is similar to the splendid function. -
Here's a description of a problem I'm having on my lenovo, it affects most games. Does vsync causing slowdown at high fps rates/screen tearing happen real bad on this laptop too?
"I've had issues with my gt 755m where a game when it reaches 60 fps or higher I either get screen tearing with vsync off or noticeable slowdown (but fps counter still stays at 60 fps or higher). This is pretty annoying, but with games like borderlands 2 with a built in fps limiter I can limit it to 50 and it stays smooth throughout.
The only other game I've seen solve this is battlefield 4 when I put in the RenderDevice.RenderAheadLimit 1 command. Then I can hit 60 fps and no slowdown -- but it lowers my overall fps most of the time unforunately
I tried FPS limiters like nvidia inspector limiting it to 55 which let me turn on vsync and no slow down, but then I get some tearing." -
Was looking into my Starcraft 2 issue with another user and wanted to share my findings with everyone:
I can confirm without a doubt that SC2 is throttled by the CPU on the i5 version. I used throttlestop and GPU-Z for logging. The GPU max load I get with SC2 is 75%. At Nvidia Experience optimized settings at 1080p, I get roughly 32fps at the start of Safe Haven level on WoL. When I turn CPU turbo off, it drops to 28fps and GPU load drops to 65% - red flag right there. After throttling the CPU to 60ish%, the GPU load dropped to 30-40% and my fps were crushed.
It's still playable at 30ish fps, but it's disappointing to see that even on LOWEST settings I only get 45fps. I think this could be improved if there was a way to disable hyperthreading. SC2 only uses 2 threads, so the other 2 are being utilized by background processes and Windows probably doesn't let SC2 use more than 70% of the load. I might fool with it more later and test some things out. If anyone knows of a good way to disable hyperthreading, please share. The only way I know of is in the bios, which Acer has certainly locked(unless there's an unlocked bios I don't know about). -
You won't be happy with the performance of the ddr3 750m at 1080p unless you want to downscale resolution to 1600x900 or 1366x768 and I don't like downscaling since I want everything to look sharp with its natural native resolution. However if you are curious about the performance of the dd3 gt 750m, just look up the review of the Asus N550JV by notebookcheck since I get about the same performance that review was getting minus maybe 5-10% since the Asus was sporting a full mobile core quad cpu and this Acer is only packing a ULV i5 haswell.
From my testing, some games will run smoothly above 40+ FPS at native FHD resolution as long as you stay mostly medium to low settings. 1080p and high or ultra high settings is a no go for ddr3 gt 750m and from my experience, my bare minimum to run a game smoothly and still looking good at 1080p is a DDR5 GT 750m or a GTX 760m and this is bare minimum. -
1080p gaming is overrated, 1600X900 on this laptop looks perfect. I know what people mean, if you drop from the natvie res on older laptops, things did not look right. But that was when we were using 1366X768 screens.
On this screen and this laptop, 1600X900 looks just like 1080, no real difference. Play in 900 and you can play game on high, and have a better experience. Or play at 1080 on med and low and be happy that you hit 1080, but it is not worth it for me. Try 900 and see what I mean. -
How in the hell do you fix the yellowish tint and oversaturation look when viewing photos or watching videos? It just looks too yellow and too oversaturated making viewing photos or watching videos a terrible experience.

Wow,
Amazon just increased the price on the 14" version V7-482PG-6629 from $839.00 to $949.00.

The whole reason why I bought this laptop was due to the excellent portability, screen, and having the ability to do some gaming when I had the chance to. Granted, I always have my gaming desktop and gaming laptop that can perform much better, but I am very impressed at how great this laptop is. The only issue that I can see is how hot this thing could get. Long gaming sessions will really push the thermal limit, so I'm gonna take a look at some laptop cooling pads. Anybody have any suggestions? -
as far as your inquiry is concerned about thermal control, just make sure that the cooling pads fans are silent and really blowing air. I would recommend something with bigger fans but not noisy. -
Best one I ever bought, for the price. -
just looking over speccy and found out this laptop uses "12.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-11-28)" 800MHz... 800MHz is rediculously low. I thought it would at least be 1333 and most probably be 1600MHz. Could this be inaccurate? Could this be causing the laptop to be slower than it should? should i overclock the ram?

Correction: turns out it is overall 1600MHz and my accusations above are dumb. -

By the way, while searching through UEFI on the machine, i found that for mSATA and SATA disks there is RAID mode available. Now with just single SSD working in mine i don't need it but someone might. Made a review but, well, it's in russian - if i have some spare time, will rewrite it in english.
One thing i should mention. I was seriously surprised by battery life of the laptop - reading a book with wi-fi on and 50-60% brightness approximated 10 hours. Surfing with 40% - about 9. -

thanks for the correction about the ram that it is 1600mhz.
-
you are welcome. the clue there is in the latency clocking (11-11-11-28). -
So I picked up this laptop a couple of days ago and its really great. I'm dualbooting 8.1 and ubuntu at the moment. However, I can't seem to get bumblebee to work correctly. Has anyone had any troubles with this specific laptop? Or does anyone know how to disable the 750m at the very least?
-
just look for the driver for it.
-
When any utility or app starts to use the NVidia chip (e.g. MSI Afterburner for memory overclocking, Adobe Photoshop, Sony Vegas), you'll notice a serious decrease in battery life - it's cut in half.
There are drivers for 64-bit Linux operating systems on NVidia's official site, try those in your Ubuntu, might work =) -
I think someone earlier in the thread was getting 10+ hours with Linux which was pretty impressive. I'm getting about 4. -
It working perfectly fine, just need the optirun prefix when ever I need the power of Nvidia graphics. With TLP installed and proper tuning, I'm able to get 11hrs of battery life with 20-30% brightness wifi on.
I can't recall fully how I make it work, but basically, after I finished install the OS,
1) I upgraded the kernel to the latest Linux kernel, now using kernel 3.12.2
2) install the Nvidia driver from this repo, (I'm using version 331)
* sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
* sudo apt-get update
* sudo apt-get install nvidia-331
3) Then I installed the Bumblebee
* sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bumblebee/stable
* sudo apt-get update
* sudo apt-get install bumblebee bumblebee-nvidia primus linux-headers-generic
* Reboot
* sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx xserver-xorg-core
that's all.. hope that helps. -
wow this deal is crazy, if any of you are dont know if you should buy this laptop or not, buy it for this price. if you dont like it you can probably sell it for more than you bought it. crazy deal!

Any chance this ( Screen for HP-Compaq ENVY 14-K106LA SLEEKBOOK. Replacement Laptop LCD Screens ) screen will work in the v7? lets say it hypothetically had the same socket/connector and same dimensions as acer's screen. could the bios or laptop support the screen? is there special firmware that would make it not work or something? will the laptop give enough power to the screen? the jump from 1080p to 3200x1800 could be fun and my screen is already broken so i might as well if it will work. a big if.

you have to check with Acer for compatibility.

Hi guys, I have a question.
If I replace the msata ssd with a bigger 240gb msata ssd, transfer os with programs into there, and use the stock hdd as a storage, would it reduce the noise of the stock hdd when I browse internet or work with word, pdfs?
Also, since the stock msata ssd is used for cache, would replacing it with 240gb msata ssd turn 240gb into cache as well? What would be the procedure to replace the mssd and install the os into it? -
-
So yes, if you replace the msata ssd with a larger one and proceed to install os/programs your hdd should go into an idle state and should be virtually quiet. You'll probably only hear it when you are accessing files stored on the hdd.And as long as the caching software isn't re installed onto the new ssd it should work just like a regular drive.CallmeDuty likes this. -

One more question, do any of you who own this laptop have problems with the left shift? My left shift button is not very responsive. Need to push it hard at the middle of the key for it to work. This of course is very annoying especially when typing

so far, the V7 does seem to perform very well in fps gaming. although I haven't tried Crysis 3 on it yet to see how playable that game would be on the V7. -

I have an Acer Aspire V7-482PG-6629, and I replaced my HD to a 120 GB Samsung EVO SSD, The computer is working fine with no problem and the Read speed is about 420. Also note that I did not do anything with the 24GB Caching drive. I used the ACER recovery manager and used a 32GB USB Drive to recover the OS. My questions are : Should I break down the Caching features? Can I go right now into my BIOS (after installing the OS) and change AHCI to Legacy? and format 24GB Caching drive? Another option is: Can I disable the Caching drive in my Device Manager and Uninstall the Caching software from Add Remove Programs? Will this work properly? Can anyone give me better suggestions about how to deal with the Caching drive after I have installed the OS to the SSD.

-
Guys, would it be ok to replace msata ssd with 240gb msata ssd and do a fresh install of Windows 7 on it? I don't like Windows 8.1.
Would I need to download special drivers after replacing it? -
I would personally get something like Start8 (cost $5.00) Start8 Start menu for Windows 8. Bring the Windows 8 Start menu back. or use the free start button program such as classic shell Classic Shell - Start menu and other Windows enhancements.
Then you can always boot directly to the desk top and never use the metro style if you don't want. Then you can take advantage of the speed and robustness of windows 8.
Typically, the only complaint folks have is the windows metro side of windows 8 and not having a start button. Both can be fixed easily and free. -
So what I want is:
- keep windows 8.1 in hdd
- replace 24gb ssd with 240gb and install 2nd OS(windows 7 or 8.1) in there.
- boot from new ssd and keep hdd as a storage
What makes me worried is if I would need to look for drivers and such on the new os
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Actually a better question, if I create a recovery usb drive, would it possible to boot with it in msata ssd and recover windows 8 into it? Will I still have windows 8 on my hdd if I decide to boot from hdd? -
have had the V7-482PG-6629 for a month now. I'm doing an exchange with amazon. i've had nothing but connections issues since i've had it. at first, it would knock out my wireless router coming from sleep mode. would have to run down stairs, unplug router, plug it back in. i've done every suggestion online i could find. it happens less often now. maybe once or twice a day instead of 10-15 but now throughout the day the internet slows down, (worse than dial up, sometimes pages time out) not enough to trip the router though, if i reboot the computer, speeds go back to normal.
hopefully an exchange will help. -
Yes, you should be able to use a USB with wondows to install windows onto your new msata, it is just a hdd as far as the laptop is concerned.
You should download all the drivers you will need for eahc OS and store them on your back-up hdd.
I have all the windows 8 drivers from Acer.com backed up in case I do a system restore.CallmeDuty likes this.
