Does anyone know how to disable whatever feature makes the screen brightness dim on dark pages?
-
It is a feature of intel power saving technology. Right Click on desktop, open intel graphics properties, click on power, click battery, click turn off Display Power Saving Technology.
-
Thanks thomas!
Got another question. From the icon it looks like Fn+F3 should turn the wireless on/off but when I press it nothing happens. Anyone else have this problem? -
-
-
Hmm... I read where another Acer owner had the same problem and fixed it by doing some kind or BIOS reset, but I can't even get BIOS to open. The manual says to use F2 during boot but it's not working.
-
Display Power Saving Technology is off but my screen is still dimming. Seemed to work for a short time.
-
P.S. Try rebooting. Sleep or hibernation sometimes affects the drivers and though all the settings are right autobrightness still works. -
I just got myself a new v7 but almost out of the box my ping keeps spiking. I used cmd to ping Google -t and my ping usually stays around the 55-60ms range, but every minute or so it will spike to 300-500ms. This does not affect my download speeds or loading youtube videos, but it causes lag in the games I play like dota 2 and LoL. It is really frustrating. I've tried updating the drivers, downloading drivers from the acer support, and nothing stops the ping fluctuations. I've also used cmd to ping google.com on my older laptop simultaneously and it doesn't spike like my v7, ie, when my v7 ping spikes, my old ASUS laptop ping is steady at 60ms.
-
what OS are you using? -
I'm testing the V7 with METRO Last Light. while gaming performance is very good, I found that the game uses a lot of mem resources which causes the game to shut down after some minutes while gaming due to lack of memory. I think it would be advisable to max out the ram to 12GB with games such as this and possibly Crysis. I have no problem dealing with mem with my other systems with 16gb and 24gb ram. 8 GB is just insufficient, especially if you are running a lot of programs in the background.

windows 8.1. I downloaded the drivers for Intel wireless LAN drivers for windows 8.1 and the same ping spikes occur.

What's the proper way to clone the HDD onto a 128GB SSD?
I plugged the HDD and the new SSD into my desktop, used EaseUS todo Backup to clone the drive, and then popped the newly cloned SSD into my laptop.
But when I boot it up, it gives me a "Your PC Needs to be Repaired" error like this Solution to your PC needs to be repaired Error code: 0xc0000225
EDIT: Nevermind, I made a recovery USB with my original HDD and then used that to fix the SSD with bootrec. I was originally stumped because I didn't have a W8 installation disc on hand.byfan likes this. -
Anyone have a hacked BIOS or know how to disable the onboard Intel graphics? A game I play has issues with NVIDIA Optimus, so I want to run just the dedicated graphics if possible.

Guys do you guys know how to dual boot android with windows in this laptop?
-
Hello, could you guys please tell me soemthing about it 's sister laptop: Aspire V7-482PG-6662
Acer Store: Aspire V7-482PG-6662 Ultrabook
I was about to buy it, my questions are:
1) Can it play BF4 at medium to low settings?
2) can I add a second harddisk in it ? (may be an ngff or removing the existing cache?)
3) how is it's keyboard? - apart from soem gaming, I will use it for my university studies, which means quite a bit of typing.
4) any other comments/observations -
I have that one. I pricematched it at Memory Express when it was 949.99 with DirectCanada that had it for 830.99. Ended up paying just under $900 with taxes in and environment fee (BC).
It's easy to put a second hard drive in. You can just replace the mSATA cache SSD with a bigger one, then you will have two hard drives (one storage and one boot).
Keyboard is fine, although I'm planning to buy a US keyboard off eBay and installing it myself. It's a bit shallow, but the laptop itself is pretty thin for what it houses.
I didn't try BF4, but I'm able to play Hitman Absolution on medium settings at 1080p fairly well after doing a 135/300 OC on the GT750M. -
Ok, I was wondering about the V7's gaming pedigree because it's closet competition I can see is Y410p and that comes with a 750m with DDR5 instead of ddr3, but if BF4 could be played on V7 at say medium, I am likely to go with acer
-
I accidentally deleted acer erecovery management... anyway to get it? I'm buying an ssd... if I didn't use this how else could I restore windows?

Alt + F10 during POST.

ok, I was about to buy this laptop, but when I searched for acer V7-482PG-6662 problem. I got this ,

As I was informed, worst case scenario is you can torrent a copy of Windows and install that, since your registry key is embedded in your BIOS.

Do you guys have the DDR3 or GDDR5 750M installed?

Opened a thread, hopefully we will get an unlocked BIOS for more tweaking
Anyone know how to bypass the +135 overclock lock for the 750M engine? I read you need to flash the GPU with a new VBIOS -
Just received the Canadian version about 5 days ago. It came with Windows 8 and I have not upgraded to 8.1 since everything is working very well. If I begin to have any problems with 8, I will give 8.1 a try, but I'm reluctant after reading negative stories about the upgrade not working well with the computer. Anyone care to comment on how successful their Windows 8.1 upgrade went.
Screen is perfect. No problems with it so far, with exception of my own mistake while trying to remap the keyboard. Messed up the registry and had to reload everything from the backup I fortunately made. Replaced the HDD with SSD, added memory...now it flies. I hated Windows 8 at first, but the more I use it, the more I like it. I really like the touchscreen display, it works very well on the Windows 8 Start Screen. At first I missed the traditional Start Menu but I found out that you can just start to type the app name while at the start screen and it will find the app. If you are willing to learn new ways of doing things, it seems to be a good operating system.
The laptop seems to be well-built, it is very solid and easy to upgrade by removing the bottom panel. I have gotten used to the Canadian keyboard so I will not try remapping the keys next to the shift keys again. The display I has no dead pixels and the touch screen is working perfectly. Graphics card plays the latest games and video editing apps work fine with the added RAM. I am using it on a notebook cooler so it hopefully won't overheat like my last Sony POS. The V7 appears to have better build quality than Sony, it feels very solid and tight. The only fault I can think of is that I wish it had 3 USB 3.0 ports instead of one and I wish the one 3.0 port was on the side instead of at the back. This is the first Acer I have owned, they used to be pretty bad, but this notebook is great. I hope it can stand up to the tests of time without breaking down like the last couple of Sony's I owned. I got a very reasonable price from NCIX for a nice laptop that will be doing some traveling in the future. -
Great thread everyone.
I installed a msata to replace the cache drive and it's now my windows drive. Of course like others I wanted to remove the 17gb recovery drive and add the additional space to my windows partition. I used Easeus software to do this but when it restarted to do it's work, nothing happened. I got several errors and I could do nothing to get the computer to boot again. In the end I had to use the USB recovery stick to reinstall windows which included re partitioning the SSD.
Has anyone been able to delete the recovery partition and add the new unused space to the windows drive? If so, how?
Thanks -

Hi guys is this laptop good for games is 750 enough ?

How's it going. I have something wierd coming up on my screen. Seems to be a white spot. Visible mainly when the screen is any color other then black. Here is a picture. I know its not very visible from a picture but I'm wondering if it can become a issue? Called Acer about it and they say to send it in.

@Adioni,
I have a question about the more exact fit of your Burnoaa bag about if theire stiff or dynamic as to understand if a particular Burnoaa model would fit a certian Thinkpad model - can I ask you?
Thanks!

Wi-Fi card too?

fastest mSATA SSD and best quietest 1TB HDD
will my 9mm hdd fit in there? -
Check out the TP-Link Archer C7 - the cheapest of the ones that are worth the money (although it still does cost £100).
I did recommend it in a small piece I wrote in the networking forum and I am going to bite the bullet and follow my own advice - so I will write a test of Archer C7 + Intel 7260 within a month. -
Not bad for the UK. I'd buy it at that price.
-
Cheaper it is but it's also very poor. It's 802.11ac only by name - max speeds are 300mbps for 2.4GHz and 433mbps for 5GHz.
It's advertised as 750mbps router (as all routers they add both bands' transfers) but in reality it's no faster than any N750 router.
Also it uses a 100mbps switch so it's a low end router pretending to be new technology.
Considering how ZyXeEL's own NBG6716 (high end) fared in tests - poor 2.4GHz performance, no IPv6 support, no printer sharing, lack of certain routing settings, poor routing performance and so on I would stay away from their routers.
I'll stop derailing this thread now -
