The first entry on Google has an i7 configuration.

But I'll also take into consideration that you might be from the UK so Google might have your searches indexed differently.

    Google UK - https://www.google.co.uk/#q=travelmate+p645

Oh, take a look at the 2nd entry. Oh, it's the same as the first link.

    I rest my case.

So many people been tricked like this ..

    Hi everybody,
I'm looking to buy the V7. Was going for 582(15-incher) but now I'm more inclined to go with 482. I'd like to go with P version, without dedicated graphics, as i found out there could be huge difference in battery life as shown here:
Review Acer Aspire V7-582P-6673 Ultrabook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews
Review Acer Aspire V7-582PG-74508G52tkk Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews
    (hope inserting links is fine)
the discrete graphics version lasted ~6h less in idle and 1:30 less in wifi browsing test.
I find it weird, I thought that with Optimus there shoulda be little difference if any...

The problem is, 14inch model with only integrated graphic and a decent processor,4200u or 4500u, isnt available in my country. I'd have to go for a version with nvidia 750 to get a configuration with these CPUs. I'm not really a gamer and better battery life is really important to me.

My question is: can nvidia card be completelly disabled in BIOS? And if so, does it affect the battery life?. Thanks

    Hi
it can be switchable and can be disabled but then god knows if the system will start, because i red that intel hd 4400 works or it is linked to nvidia.. so it might not work at all..
but if u concern about battery you wont use nvidia bcos as long as u disconnect laptop from power cord laptop will be used only with hd 4400 .. but it is possible run with nvidia too it depends how you set advanced power settings in windows .. It actually depends of quite dozen factors .. which is adjustable in windows ...
Once you decide one of the laptops you can check power save settings learn how to use when to use ..
On pic below I briefly showing how power saving should look but I gave you links to read of power settings you can individually search on google what each option means ..
Many people thinks that when their laptop is in sleep it doesn't drains battery .. BUT it does quite much
There are power options called system power states which will tell you what they mean .. They are called ACPI states or S states ..
    check links ...

PS: remember , if you don't force nvidia to run individual program it will stay idle
In windows you can set which gpu you want to use (pics below)

    Thanks for comprehensive answer.
I'm aware of ACPI states as well as the windows power settings.
I'm also aware of how Optimus is supposed to work. But links i posted say that the integrated gpu version lasted ~12hours in idle test while the nvidia 750m version only 6h. Now that I find concerning....

I'd suggest other reasons for that - the screen and the CPU. HD TN draws less power than FHD IPS along with lower brightness in direct comparison. For example, V5-573G without touchscreen and with dedicated graphics has runtimes of almost 9 hours idle and 7 hours surfing. And the processor with higher frequency (i7-4500U in V7-582PG against i5-4200U in other 2 laptops) will draw more power as well if you use the stock power settings, which do need some tuning after purchase.
Because i'm comparing the digits to my 482PG's runtimes and i wonder how reducing screen size by 1,6 inch (ok, and some tweaks from yours truly and an SSD) can double the runtimes in comparison to V7-582PG with same hardware and battery.
Ask if anyone has a 582PG with an i5 - is the situation better?

I believe both of reviewed models have the same display. (IPS, FHD, touch). Didnt noticed they had different CPUs (4200u vs 4500u)
I went thru this entire thread the other day. The battery tests of some people here were more encouraging than in the reviews. But i still wanted to know if you can do even better by disabling the Nvidia. (there's no such option in stock BIOS)

It would be interesting to know how much difference the i5 vs i7 makes.

Anyhow, I'm pretty much decided to go with the 482pg. Just gotta decide whether to go with an i5 or i7 (need CPU power mostly for building mobile apps and virtualization, not much else.)

Any body wanna weigh in? :)

As a rule- always go for the fastest you can afford. You won't be able to upgrade later so...

    Core i 7 4500U has higher TurboBoost speed (3GHz compared to 2.6GHz on Core i5 4200u) and more L3 cache (4MB vs 3MB).
Core i7 is consistently faster across different benchmarks although depending on a benchmark used it might be only slightly faster (GeekBench), reasonably faster (PassMark) or a lot faster (3D Mark 11 physics test).

Both have the same TDP and are built using the same manufacturing process and have similar clocks so I doubt any difference in battery life will be noticeable.

Yeah acer states battery hours like ''globally or better said approximately.
But if they states 12h (real maybe 8h) with P version ill suggest go for that version
Because REAL battery time on mine V7 is 4h and when i am on internet it even drops to 3.5h quite low..
and that will be not enough for you

That is my view as well, as far as I was able find out, the i7 only consumes more power when giving more performance than i5, which is logical and fine with me.

I'd love the go with P, but I cant get a FHD core i5/7 version of 482P here.
3.5h for a lappy with much hyped haswell and optimus is plain ridicilous IMO. Luckily, people with 482PG are reporting better results.

Will probably just pull the trigger on the i7 482pg. Thanks for your input guys.

Anybody got a teardown video or directions for the v7-482pg? I spilled some vitimin c drink on it and the keys stick. From the looks of it I have to take out the motherboard to get the the keyboard. Any advice? I heard some of you repasted the processor.

Keyboard goes as one with palmrests. Looks like it's soldered to it. I had my keyboard replaced because SHIFTs didn't work - and in the service the entire panel (palmrests, keyboard, etc) has been replaced.

    Hello all:
I just got the Canadian version last week, and installed the Crucial 256GB MSata as the OS drive by following the procedures at page 12. At first I forgot to remove the original HDD before I do the reset then the laptop keep installing the OS back to the HDD which was pretty annoying. Built quality is great palm rest is definitely metal, not 100% sure if the monitor lid is metal though might be some really nice plastic with metal lining on top. I did not get any dead pixel or noticeable light leak problem. In black screen with maximum brightness I do see some light leak at bottom right of the screen but I never notice it when using the laptop normally. I am perfectly fine with the way the keyboard is (both the bilingual layout and the travel), touchpad feel a bit weird at first but I got used to it after playing around it with a couple hours and installing the latest driver, mine come with Elantech.

I installed all the Windows Update and proceed to upgrade to Windows 8.1. At first I did get the wifi issue even with Acer's driver, but it was fixed by installing the driver from Intel's website. The file was Wireless_17.0.0_e64.exe and Wireless_17.0.0_de64.exe. Not sure if you need to install both but I did. I also install the Bluetooth one but haven't tested it out yet.

Battery life seems to be good, I got at least 5~6 hours with wifi on, screen brightness around 60%, while downloading and installing programs/ setup my laptop.
Tried to play Diablo 3 with setting from nVidia geforce experience for about half an hour the performance is great didn't get any throttling issues. The top of the keyboard is indeed hot but I had similar experience with my old laptop, not to mention the hot spot for my old laptop is at left palm rest...

This is an awesome laptop for the price, will be using it as my secondary/travelling companion hope it will last for a long time. My previous cheap HP lasted me 6 years I hope this one won't disappoint me.

Has anybody experienced the laptop freezing when left idle for 15 minutes? Mouse cursor displays the loading indicator (blue circle) and I can't click on anything. Ctrl + alt + del doesn't work also. I have to manually press power button to restart when this happens.

Hi. I'm desperately looking for this laptop in Europe but apparently there's no practical way to get one.
    Even US sellers seem disappeared.

I had the chance to read about a shop in netherland which sells it but it is the mid-level with i5, not i7. Do you think it's worth to spend 899 euro for the i5 version?

    Thanks

Hi Galaxy, thanks for the prompt support. For some reason my ebay setting prevented me from these links. However, after some cost / benefit analysis I think I'd switch to the 482pg (i7, 14" model). I can't assess whether my ebay setting are again eluding me from the products or 482pg i7 version is, in fact, unavailable outside the official US acer channel.

I just ordered 15,6 inch version with i5 and integrated graphics. I'm not really gaming often, but overall specs made me choose this machine. Hopefully all's gonna work out well for me. BTW, is there another thread for 15,6 version or can I keep coming back here?

BTW, I'm ordering this in Europe, so I wonder why you can't get certain version in Netherlands. We have many versions available over here.

Here I am again. I'm pretty happy with the purchase. Display is beautiful and everything seems great. It's so slim and light and pretty fast. I can get used to keyboard and touchpad, I'm sure. Though one thing with touchpad isn't quite clear - how do I scroll with touchpad? I don't know how to do that lol. Another thing - what should I uninstall? Laptop is pretty fast, but I know some of you mentioned there's some stuff slowing it down. I'll come back tomorrow, I'm sure I'll think of more questions as I get to use this machine bit more.

I think you should use multi-touch gesture (i.e. two fingers up and down). How much did you pay for it?

Thanks it's working now. I tried it yday because I read it in the manual, but it's gonna get some getting used to. Pretty hard to scroll up and down with two fingers, because touchpad has too many functions I think. I might disable some of them if I figure out how.
I paid approximately 690 euros (I bought it in Czech Republic, so it was in czech crowns).

As for the first impressions - again screen is flawless. Amazing colors, beautiful crisp letters. NO backlight even with completely black background wallpaper. Keyboard is indeed very shallow, but I'm used to this. My Lenovo SL510 wasn't this shallow, but typing experience was similar. I can type fast and it's precise. I was actually having troubles with my PC's old keyboard (something like this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f0/Bijoy_Keyboard_image.jpg) that I was using before I got this machine. I guess it's all about personal preferences. Another pleasant thing about this Acer is that it's completely silent. I didn't try games yet, but with wifi on, surfing the net, multiple tabs open it doesn't make any noise at all. I'm pretty happy about it, because I have personal vendetta against HP's noisy laptops. Laptop is also very cool. Next high point is definitely speakers - so clear and loud. Beautiful considering it's laptop. Build quality seems ok, too. It's much nicer than I thought. Design is really nice and it's so slim, I love it (I have black version).
Now about cons - there are two things I'm not too happy about - Win 8 and touchpad. Win 8 is probably just matter of getting used to, but I don't like metro screen and apps. Though everything is pretty fast and works well. I'm just little old fashioned I guess :p
Touchpad is working rather well, I usually tap to open apps etc so that's not problem, but multitouch gestures are kind of crazy. I'm not hating it, but I can see I'm gonna be using rather touch screen than touchpad (especially for scrolling).
Lastly, battery life on this laptop is pretty good so far. I guess integrated graphic card makes some difference. That's all for now, will be back later.

edit: where can I find cache ssd in laptop properties?

    very good question indeed.
In years of laptop usage I suspect much of the cristallized dust (the one which damages your screen when you try to remove it as it sticks to lcd) is due to the contact with the keyboard, so you can put something (electrostatic) between the two when you close the laptop..

The V7-482PG shouldn't create keyboard smudge when the laptop is closed from my experience.

If keyboard smudge is a worry, get a nice lint-free cloth and stick it between the keyboard during transportation.

I have V7 582P but I guess it's same. Anyway smudges seemed to be from my fingerprints but now I can't see any so it's probably just my eyes being tired.
Another question - can you pick your own picture for 'welcome screen'? I mean the screen that appears when you turn on laptop or when you wake it up from the sleep. When I click on it it takes me to 'password log in' .

    Hi guys,

    Could someone help me please?
I have an Acer 573G. The main issue I have with it is the sound the right fan produces. It is audible in quiet rooms. This is a recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yArUwhWbo7E

My question is: does your V7-482PG produce the same sound? (Specifically, coming from the right fan.)
It seems that all 573Gs have the problem, and if the V482PG does not I'll exchange my 573G for that!

Thanks in advance for your response.

Need your help guys - I remember someone mentioned you can adjust setting of your touchpad. TBH I'm not too happy about touchpad on V7. It's the only complaint I have about the machine, but I think it'd be better if I could disable multitouch gestures on touchpad. Or am I the only one who finds it hard to use and almost impossible to scroll with?

So, I have the V7-482PG 6662 and while watching TV the screen suddenly went black. I plugged in a HDMI cable and the external display works still which means something is wrong with the screen. The touchscreen works and if I shine a bright light on the screen, I can see that the display is working still although very very dimly. (It looks the same as if you press the function key and F6 to turn of the display.) My googling leads me to believe that this is likely the inverter or possibly the screen position sensor.

I opened it up this morning and didn't see anything that looked like what the images of laptop inverters are. Going into the screen is the lcd cable and what appears to be a posative and negative cable coming from the wifi module. I'm guessing that that means the inverter is in the screen. How would I go about ordering a replacement screen?

EDIT: It appears that the screen uses a LED back light which does not have an inverted. i was able to get the plastic most of the way off the back of the screen but the bottom corners were stuck. I'll try tomorrow and see if perhaps a cable came loose. I was able to get a model number for the screen (B140HAN01.1) in case anyone else is interested.

Hi to all who play battlefield 4: What is your fps when in the middle of a firefight? Mine constantly dips to 30fps. It used to work fine even in 1080p but with all settings to low. I find that after hitting my laptop to the right of the touchpad it caused my games to be laggy :(. I was trying to kill a mosquito which landed on my laptop lol.

Hello all, so i just wanted to share my experience with Acer Support in case anyone has similar issues. So i have the V7 with a 24GB Cache and 500GB and i5-4200U. I installed a Samsung Evo 256GB SSD immediately i got it sometime last year. Anyway, i spilled coffee and orange juice on my keyboard while studying and also dropped my laptop once in class. The drop cracked my lower plastic case but luckily my screen was okay. Eventually, the spill made my keyboard act up and buttons were being frenzied as the computer booted up. I had talked to Acer Support and they said it would cost me $260 to repair the laptop if it was found to be my fault or it had hardware faults from the user. I lied (not proud lol) that i had cracked the case in a bid to back up my data by trying to get to my harddrive before sending the computer to them in Texas. They bought the lie and billed me just $30 (before tax) for the repair of the under case. They also didnt find any evidence of a spill on my keyboard and as such changed my keyboard and trackpad from a Synaptics variant to an Elantech one. The total turn around time for them to repair the laptop was about 2 days (excluding shipping and phone calls lying about how my case got damaged lol). I am quite impressed and i got a keyboard transparent cover from eBay for about $4 as my warranty is gonna expire in October lol. Anyway i hope this helps someone as Acer is kinda liberal with their spill policy it seems

    Hello.

Can some people that have this notebook some longer time write some points? I still cannot decide and I feel that all of the notebooks are somehow crappy. (I don't have 2000$...)

How is the notebook after longer time of use? (I mean after a year or so...)
    Any issues?
    Is it reliable?
How is the wear of the notebook?
How is the keyboard and touchpad?
Have you used to the shallow keyboard?
    How is the battery life?
Is it something else about the notebook that is an issue?

    Thank you

    Bohumir

How is the notebook after longer time of use? (I mean after a year or so...) - Ive had mine for 10 months plus...its holding out perfectly.
Any issues? No Issues watsoever. Touchpad has little to no wear, touchscreen is as responsive as ever.
    Is it reliable? Very reliable
How is the wear of the notebook? Only wear i have is on the underside and a lil chipping on the side on the screen bezel. nothing extraordinary or evident.
How is the keyboard and touchpad? Keyboard has a lil flex touchpad is not the best but they work as they shud i guess
Have you used to the shallow keyboard? I dont understand but i guess with time, u can get used to the keyboard in about 1month
How is the battery life? Battery life is stellar!! after a year windows 8.1 still runs on battery for about 4-7 Hrs depending on what exactly u are doing and the brightness of the screen.
Is it something else about the notebook that is an issue? Well its slim body tends to heat up when u use graphical intensive applications, i counter this with a Cooling Pad from Cooler Master. Keeps things ice cold

The V5 has been refreshed with GTX 850M graphics recently, are there any signs of a 2014 refresh for the V7-482PG (with GTX 850M)?

With an i7 and 850M this notebook should be faster than a Lenovo Y40.

V5-573G. I don't know about the US market but the refreshed i7 is available here in The Netherlands. The i5 will be available later this month.

Notebooks mit Hersteller: Acer, Display-Größe ab 15", Display-Größe bis 16.9", GPU-Serie: GeForce GTX 8 Preisvergleich | Geizhals Deutschland

there you go. I am courious, if the release a V5 with the i7 and without the OS as well. plus with a HDD instead of the overpriced SSD. für roughly 800€, this would be very sweet. though I don't know, if the i7 does better in games at all. I heard of thermal problems which enforce some very slight throtteling for the predecessors.

I play a lot of WOrld of Tanks and this game is VERY hungry for CPU-performance.

I don't think there is a huge difference between the 4210u and 4510u.
